BUILDING Neo Build Todd Farrow owns and operates NorthShore based residential building business Neo Build. He’s been at the helm of the company seven years and created a business that values quality, buildability, systems and client engagement above all else. “We are focused on architecturally based renovations and new builds, finding clients who want to build their dream-home and are looking for the highest of quality. We have a fantastic team with myself serving as in house quantity surveyor and client communications, plus dedicated project manager and admin person and 10 builders on the tools, so it’s been a great journey to date.” Todd has built relationships with multiple high-end architects creating a significant portfolio of work. He has put a priority on engaging well with these professionals right from the start of every project. “We can bring a perspective in from a buildability and cost-effective design point of view. I believe the combination of architect and builder working closely together early in the design process gets our clients the very best outcome. Many clients believe the architect is the first step in the process, although they are very important, finding a builder early in the process you trust and can work with can save you thousands of dollars in construction and design fees.” Todd offers a pre-construction consultancy service, even on projects he may not be involved with building to make sure clients budgets are achieved and designs are buildable. And among his team is an apprentice, who Todd says, has demonstrated outstanding capability right from the get-go. “Sean Modrich is one out of the box. He was a 16-year-old Long Bay College student who I met through the school’s Gateway Programme. I was just blown away by his work ethic and common sense at such a young age.” From the Gateway Programme Sean seized the opportunity to work full-time and undertake an apprenticeship with Todd. At just 19 years of age, his capabilities have shone through at a national level, gaining Silver in the Northern Regional Apprenticeship of the Year Awards this year. “For someone of his age to gain such an award against guys much older really speaks to what this young man has to offer the building sector. He has a wonderful future ahead of him.” The judging process is rigorous. First the apprentice must submit an application; a written proposal about himself and why he thinks he is apprentice of the year material. Then a practical assessment of a specified project is undertaken and measured against other applicants for skill-level. Following this, the list is reduced and those who make it through to this stage are interviewed. Todd says that through training talent such as this, Neo Build will continue to maintain their passion and stellar reputation. While based on the North Shore, Neo Build takes on projects all over Greater Auckland. He says there is plenty of work on now and have some great projects in the near future. And with respect to the impact of COVID, Todd says that he’s found it to be very manageable. “It’s about being organised and planning well in advance.” Neo Build have established themselves as builders that produce outstanding work, with the highest trust resulting in many repeat clients and recommendations. “I always wanted to focus on real quality and deliver wonderful homes to our clients.
