Business North March 2022

| 99 Rag Renos Kitchen and dining renovations are a big part of the business. BUILDING Husband and wife team Max and Tabatha Cossey started their company Maximum Electrical Ltd. about 20 years ago. They work nationwide, but their o ices are in Waiuku with the bulk of their clients found between South Auckland and North Waikato. Their business has four key markets: a residential renovations and maintenance team; an industrial team working on some of the country’s biggest sites such as New Zealand Steel; a medical team supporting the engineers responsible for installing and maintaining x-ray rooms and operating theatres around the country; and increasingly, installing and maintaining both commercial and residential PV Solar panels. The medical work came about as a result of Covid when the specialist teams due to arrive to install an x-ray machine couldn’t get into the country. Maximum Electrical Ltd. successfully stepped up, working alongside New Zealand engineers to provide a turn-key service, and the work has continued to come as it’s clear that they’re well capable of doing the job as required. A combination of repeat customers and word-of-mouth referrals keeps them busy enough that their sta now numbers 18 including 15 ield sta ranging from engineers and inspectors to electricians and technicians. Tabatha runs the o ice alongside Simon Mitchell who runs the day-to-day teams taking some of Max’s workload. Simon started o with his own electrical company Smart electrical solutions which Maximum Electrical bought out, as has happened with several of their sta . The net result is a skilled and motivated sta well used to taking responsibility for the work they do, and they’re looking forward to taking on two new apprentices this year. Max has known John McKenzie, the owner of Rag Renos, for close to 10 years and as that business has grown and matured Maximum Electrical has been on a parallel journey. “It’s a relationship built out of a high level of communication,” says Max, “like our relationships with our clients. We enjoy working with the Rag Renos team, we have similar aspirations in terms of giving the clients what they need and looking after our sta and we look forward to continuing our relationship.” It’s not unusual for clients to need help working out what it is they want in the irst place, which starts with a one-on-one meeting with the customer, establishing a relationship, and helping them work the details of their vision out. “Often they don’t know what’s out there,” says Max, ‘so that’s an important step and that’s why we win repeat clients. We keep the process as transparent as we can.” Whether they’re working with the team from Rag Renos or separately their aim is to give the customer good advice and help to ensure that their wants and needs can be achieved and delivered, within the budget and the timeframe available.
