It is important for us at NCI that we are ‘ActingNow’ in order to reduce our CO2 footprint today. I want to thank and congratulate our people for their contributions to this achievement and look forward to the work we can do in the future.” In January 2022 NCI started its groupwide solar project (total of 2000kw by 2023) by installing 500kw worth of solar on its head office metal factory in Melbourne. This has reduced the electricity consumption at the site by 20 percent. Production and storage space utilisation efficiency has also improved quite significantly. “As a company that’s made up of people on both sides of the Tasman, we’re really glad to have the opportunity to help lower the carbon profile of New Zealand on its journey to net zero – and of course to contribute to lowering emissions generally,” says Tyrrell. In other areas, NCI has also started looking into bringing in tinplate made using more carbon-neutral processes. Its cans are also fully recyclable in New Zealand, with all can manufacturing operations carried out under the same roof, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint and reduced costs. These initiatives will join NCI’s past and future measures to reduce emissions and increase efficiency across the NCI Group.
