New Zealand owned RICADO started in 2009 to meet a gap in the market for a world class industrial monitoring and control platform. It has since become New Zealand's leading Internet of Things platform serving diverse clients including horticulture, coolstores, infrastructure, councils, civil engineering, earthworks and agriculture. “Large scale enterprises demand intelligent systems to ensure e icient utilisation of resources that are controlled, reported and monitored to deliver value, insight, and performance, while reducing risk. Intelligent monitoring and control drives performance, e iciency and quality,” explains RICADO technical director Ash Neilson. The Internet of Things encompasses physical objects with sensors, processing ability, software and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the internet or other communications networks to drive better outcomes for customers. Ash says RICADO’s solutions are highly individual. “We’re not an o the shelf solution. Everything is customised to suit the client’s needs. We consider what issues they need to solve then come up with the right solution,” says Ash. He says RICADO aims to provide clients with a turnkey solution, keeping things easy for them and integrating with other well-known platforms as required. World-classmonitoringwith RICADO “This means the client has no need for multiple products to achieve an outcome. It’s about creating one platform so everything is in one place.” RICADO’s work for Southern Cross Horticulture is a good example. RICADO came up with a platform that encompassed irrigation water management, fertigation, frost protection and compliance monitoring software. The result has been the client has greater control of its business with the ability to gain insight and data in key areas anywhere, anytime. Ash says in particular water management has become a key issue for clients in the horticulture industry, which has seen RICADO look to further innovate and come up with a platform so clients can more e ectively balance the use of this resource with optimising growing outcomes. This has involved the RICADO expert team of leading edge developers work with Tau Research on a system that will combine soil moisture with water usage data to help growers make more informed decisions around the use of this precious resource and ensuring they comply with resource consent conditions. It’s a good example of how RICADO always aims to stay one step ahead. “RICADO is about making it easy for our customers to manage their business remotely, stay well connected and ultimately have peace of mind.” RICADO is proudly associated with Southern Cross Horticulture.
