He says it is a premium product that aligns with current trends in the global fruit bowl towards increased consumption of premium fruit. Two blocks of Zespri RubyRed comprising 12.5 ha (23% of the orchard) will be planted in a measured approach to the new variety. SCH currently develops 90-100ha per annum for itself, its partners and third-party customers within the industry. It has already completed six other orchard investment projects over the past five years and Andrew says this has created scale advantages with SCH always maintaining a significant equity investment in each project. “There is huge demand for product internationally and we are operating at the front end of the Zespri growth story.
