82 | INTERIORS Apex Interiors Karen Phelps Award recognises exceptional fitout Apex Interiors took out the 2022 AWCI award of excellence for its work on the Sylvia Park Galleria in Auckland. Apex Interiors has become a go-to company on complex projects. As proof the company has taken out the 2022 AWCI award of excellence for commercial projects over $500,000 for its work on the Sylvia Park Galleria in Auckland. The awards highlight the exceptional standard of interior fitout and craftsmanship in both residential and commercial projects undertaken by AWCI members and Apex Interiors company director Chris Bamforth says the accolade is a testament to the skills of the entire Apex team – both on site and in the office. Apex provides a wide range of services in the interior fitout market including steel stud wall framing, suspended ceilings, aluminium partitioning, acoustic/thermal insulation, plasterboard linings, stopping, KOROK installation and acoustic wall coverings. On the Sylvia Park project it engaged in early contractor involvement to help Naylor Love and the wider project team to form the best methodology for the complex ceiling system, which involved lots of heavy and custom made product. “Nothing was a straight flat surface,” says Chris. “There were lots of curves, domes, rounds etc. We worked collaboratively with the team to find the best way to install it and ensure it was seismically correct.” Apex Interiors worked with four main suppliers: Rondo Building Systems (who supplied the steel framework), Decortech (custom design timber veneer panels), Plastercraft (fibrous plaster moulds) and Metal Concepts (fabricator of the custom curved aluminium recesses and metal perforated feature panels). Chris says there are not many companies capable of installing the complex ceiling and he is proud of the talent the Apex Interiors team brings to clients’ projects culminating in recognition for their work at the AWCI awards. Apex Interiors had its beginnings in 2007 when Chris and business partner Shannon Irvine purchased a small company in Auckland. That company has now grown to Apex Interiors, which offers branches in Auckland, Northland, Waikato/Bay of Plenty, Wellington and Christchurch. Apex Interiors can provide a supply and install or design build service for its clients. Apex Interiors works for plenty of high profile brands including 2Degrees, Microsoft, Tesla and more. The company’s biggest project to date was Commercial Bay where Apex Interiors completed the ceiling and acoustic requirements for the whole base build and 80% of the tenancy fitouts. The project value was equivalent to the Auckland branch’s entire annual turnover to give some indication of the magnitude of the project. Chris says the aim, no matter what the size of the job, is to always make life easy for clients, delivering a high quality result on time and on budget. “Apex is highly regarded by our clients due to our solid reputation for a high standard of workmanship, reliability, safe work practices, superior organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. “There is an in-house motivation to go above and beyond, tackling tasks with a pragmatic, professional, down-to-earth approach. “This has assisted in establishing the longterm relationships that we relish with our clients.” The company boasts a highly skilled team and strong staff retention, says Chris. “At least 12 people have been with us for over 10 years. We aim to provide career pathways. “For example we have had a truck driver become our national general manager, a labourer who is currently second in charge and a school student who came to work part time while completing her studies is now one of our senior quantity surveyors.” When Quality Counts McKain Fibrous Plasters are proud to support Apex Interiors FOR ALL YOUR FIBROUS PLASTER & PLASTERBOARD LINING REQUIREMENTS www.mckain.co.nz 09 634 8803 Plastercraft 2000 ARTISAN FIBROUS PLASTER 09 - 634 8800 / Fax - 09 - 634 8819 | sales@plastercraft2000.co.nz 58 Victoria St, Onehunga, Auckland
