| 93 Norx Building: House of the Year Awards Kelly Deeks Hotel-style luxury wins gold gong The winning project was one of three terrace homes built on one section. BUILDING Auckland building, project management and property development firm Norx Building has been impressing its customers with quality homes and a no-nonsense approach for more than 20 years, and is now proud to count a gold award amongst its tally of House of the Year medals for a special project in Epsom. Initially established as Norx Construction by qualified and passionate builder Nelson Fung in 2004, Norx has grown into project management and property development as three partners have joined Nelson over the years as directors. “We just do our own thing, and that’s how the business has grown,” Nelson says. “We don’t worry about what the other companies are doing. When we didn’t win gold at House of the Year, we didn’t worry. We took our lessons out of it and we tried again.” Nelson says Norx’s success at this year’s awards was all about teamwork, and the company took all of Norx Building’s 13 staff to the awards dinner. Nelson says their attendance at this special event is one of the major benefits offered by the competition, as being there to see their success has fired up the whole team even more, and made them determined to get back to the awards night again this year. The winning project was one of three tall terrace homes built by Norx on one section, three-storeys high to capture breathtaking views to One Tree Hill. Judges say with five double bedrooms and four bathrooms all decked out in hotel-style luxury, the home boasts plenty of X-factor. It has a thoughtful layout with plenty of small nooks and rooms for quiet time, which are balanced by the entire middle level being dedicated to functional and beautiful open-plan living. Here, a sleekly designed kitchen and dining area has a seamless connection to an adjacent outdoor space, where screening of the deck provides privacy as well as design flair, which is a hallmark of this home. Timber floorboards and stairs with glass balustrades give continuity between the different levels and space, while each bathroom is fitted out with streamlined elegance. The bathrooms were one of the biggest challenges on this project, tight site, Covid delays, and materials shortages aside. Having completed a bathroom, Norx realised while it looked good on the plan, the reality wasn’t a comfortable space. The floor had to be pulled out and the plumber called back to redo the plumbing in order that the resulting bathrooms could meet the high standards of quality and usability Norx sets for itself and its projects. Nelson says Norx approaches every project as though it is going to be entered into the House of the Year competition. “Quality, usability, and affordability are our main focus points and when we’re building, craftmanship and workmanship are the things we focus on. We don’t make speed the first priority, we make quality the first priority.” Norx has built up an extensive knowledge base which empowers the company and its customers with effective and professional advice, and efficient organisation of projects to ensure great savings every step of the way. 09 392 7789 sallie@drainagetv.co.nz 44F Crooks Rd, East Tamaki, Auckland CCTV Drain Inspections Drain Locating Drainage Repairs DOWN UNDER PLUMBING & DRAINAGE TOTAL PIPEWORK SOLUTIONS SINCE 1990 Proudly supporting Norx Building • Plumbing • Drainage • Gas • Central Heating 0800 475 8622 www.downunderplumbing.co.nz Gold franchisee of the year: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 2020 2021 & 2022 PH. 09 2634 000 | EMAIL. info@vistalitesouth.co.nz www.vistalite.co.nz VISTALITE SOUTH PROUD SUPPLIER OF PREMIUM WINDOWS AND DOORS TO NORX BUILDING
