Forestview Homes BUILDING Working in and around Whakatāne, small family building firm Forestview Homes, places a full focus on each individual client and their project, leading to better quality, efficiency, and overall success. “Our clients are so important to us, so we like to show it by giving them our best,” says Forestview Homes owner Laurence Forrest. “They’ve made such a big investment and it could be the home they live in for the rest of their lives. It has to be quality, it has to be everything they want, and we’ll make that happen.” Laurence has been building since 2001, and has made his name as an excellent builder producing high-quality craftsmanship. At Forestview Homes he works alongside his wife Lauren and builder John Puutu, and together the small team builds a close and caring relationship with their clients throughout their new-home journey. Forestview Homes can take clients from very early on in their project, even at site selection to assess its potential, and from there, handle the whole process through to handover of the new dream home. Laurence says the construction industry in Whakatāne, and particularly the new residential build market, is currently well down. Like much of the rest of the country, this is due to the recession, but it is also because of a scarcity of available sections. ”The sections that have opened up in what is our biggest subdivision for many years started off at about $200,000 and now they’re asking more than double. With the price of construction where it is, that makes it really unaffordable.” So, Forestview Homes is keeping busy and working with customers to achieve their renovations and extensions, as well as those smaller jobs around the property like decks, fences, and sheds. The economic outlook has Laurence and Lauren now selling the family home they built a couple of years ago and looking to reinvest in their next project. The house they are selling was built on a former grazing block, which the couple developed from a bare block. Their design, has the bedrooms and living rooms placed all along the north side to capture all-day sun. A raking ceiling in the lounge gives the room a lush and expansive feel, while skylights over the shower in the ensuite provide a great aesthetic and lots of natural light and ventilation. During design, in true over-and-above style, Laurence put pegs in the ground and pieces of timber up to his proposed roof line, then went next door to the neighbour’s deck to make sure his new home wasn’t going to block their views. Harking back to his early days of learning his trade, Laurence and John built the frames for the house, choosing to do the work over the extended lead times during Covid. The Forestview Homes team is looking forward to starting the next new build and is eagerly anticipating the right market conditions so they can help Whakatāne District Council reach its goal of 5500 new homes in the next 30 years. 25 Gateway Drive, Whakatane, 3120 P: 07 307 8495 E: gatewayflooring@xtra.co.nz Proudly supporting ForestviewHomes dbplumbing GAS FITTING • DRAIN LAYING David Bruce & Mark Walker Directors 26 McAlister Street, Whakatane 3120 07 308 4910 | 027 517 9504 david@dbplumbing.co.nz | mark@dbplumbing.co.nz Proudly Supporting Forestview Homes OF BUILDINAG M COVENANT HOMES & JOINERY & JOINERY FORESTVIEW HOMES PROUDLY SUPPORTING
