Business North March 2025

128 | TK Developments BUILDING Based in Hamilton, TK Developments is looking ahead to a busy year, with developments underway in Putaruru and Matamata. The company specialises in both civil construction and building , with owner Morore Tuhakaraina also involved with another business in the energy sector “I worked for Fletcher Construction for three years and undertook a construction apprenticeship. Prior to this, I was at University of Waikato doing a double major in Business Management and Project and Supply Chain Management five years ago.” Morore says he has always had an interest in the civil construction industry as well as building houses - giving him a rich background of experiences from which to build his own business. This year, he says, will be a big one with an expected turnover of +-$500,000. “We’re getting underway with our first development of three houses in Putaruru and three other house builds in Matamata with potential of running a 42-home development. “We’ll be providing the services and about 70% of the build work which is really exciting. I can’t wait to get these projects underway.” The three houses are in Putaruru, South Waikato. Valued at $450,000 each, the homes will have three bedrooms, two bathrooms and will be developed for a private property investor with the other full house builds in Matamata, Waharoa and Tauwhare for Te Hauora o Ngati Haua Iwi Trust. Morore says the Te Hauora Iwi Trust are very interested in the building packages he has to offer. “The Trust is intent on providing positive housing outcomes for their people and if we can be part of contributing to this then that’s great for everyone. Our niche is certainly building homes and competitive prices.” “This also brings more employment opportunities to our communities, gateway opportunities for local high school, and apprenticeship aspirations and goals for all. “The majority of our builds will be constructed by Maori-owned businesses and for me its wonderful to be part of creating opportunities to enhance this sector while building homes for whanau and iwi.” Building solid relationships with suppliers has been crucial to establishing TK Developments. Morore says its very important to him to deliver wonderful value and outcomes for clients. “Yes, its important of course to make a profit to feed back into the development of our business but equally its important to me to run a sustainable business in every sense of the word. Getting more bang for your buck is what underpins how I approach my building projects, but also sharing my knowledge and experience with iwi to bring more awareness around competitive full build prices. Other potential projects in the Waikato under the umbrella of Waikato Tainui are pointing to a positive year ahead. Mororre’s father, Whana Tuhakaraina is the company’s Operations Manager and Morore is well supported with a mentor in the form of a real-estate investor who owns upward of 30 properties around New Zealand. “I go to church with this young man only in his mid-30’s and he has retired. Such are his capabilities.” With the fuel-logistics and brokering business Morore is also involved in he has three minor partners. One is involved in finance and banking, another builds digital systems Morore’s team on a mission Building solid relationships with suppliers has been crucial to establishing TK Developments. T T Sue Russell “...for me its wonderful to be part of creating opportunities to enhance this sector while building homes for whanau and iwi.” for Government and the third has his own construction company. “My work here takes me into conversations with fuel companies operating at a global level. I’m involved in a global fuel procurement business where we bring buyers and sellers together. “I’ve got the crazy idea that I want to disrupt the fuel market to pass on cost benefits. Fuel costs underpin all sectors of our economy.” Jumping in boots and all into the fuel supply sector has been a steep learning curve for Morore, but one he says has taken him into conversations with significant businesses, interested in discussing his ideas and formulating a pathway forward. Meanwhile on the TK Developments front, Morore says he’s very much looking forward to tackling some wonderful projects with far-reaching consequences for his community. 0800 PH DAMDOORS (0800 74 3263) sales@damdoors.co.nz | www.damdoors.co.nz | 118 Greenwood Street, Frankton, Hamilton Proudly Supporting T K Developments PROUDLY SUPPORTING T K DEVELOPMENTS Ezra Stone 027 872 7851 ezrastone30@gmail.com
