The company was recognised for its innovation and exceptional project management during the challenging pandemic period. “We’re particularly proud of completing the development ahead of schedule, despite the significant challenges posed by Covid-19,” says Mike Gibson, director of McCore Group. The development, spanning 3545sqm, comprises 21 three- and four-bedroom townhouses with each one featuring a distinctive light-filled atrium at its core, complete with a Japanese maple tree, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces. Each unit includes state-of-the-art amenities such as a designer kitchen, spacious living areas, and ample storage, designed to cater to modern family needs. Working in collaboration with award-winning architects Novak+Middleton, McCore Group successfully executed the complex, split-level design. The project’s location, overlooking Ridge Park and minutes from Long Bay Regional Park and beach, presented both opportunities and challenges. “The sloping site required innovative construction techniques and careful environmental consideration, and saw our team implementing advanced erosion control measures,” explains Mike. The company’s approach to pandemic-related challenges particularly impressed the awards committee. Despite labour shortages and supply chain disruptions, it maintained rigorous health protocols, while keeping the project on track. The area’s frequent heavy rainfall also posed significant risk to the construction timeline. McCore’s proactive weather management strategies, including the use of weather-resistant materials and flexible scheduling, effectively mitigated these risks. “From the outset, the project management team employed a detailed and adaptive planning process, which included contingency planning for weather-related delays, comprehensive resource allocation, and proactive risk management. Effective use of advanced project management tools and regular milestone reviews ensured that the project not only met but exceeded the planned timelines, completing a week earlier than anticipated. This advanced planning enabled seamless coordination between various subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that all components of the project were executed efficiently.” Community engagement played a crucial role in the project’s success. Regular consultation with local residents, and careful consideration of construction impacts, helped secure community support. The development’s contribution to professional development was also noted, with McCore Group running a comprehensive training programme for its staff and contractors. “The training initiative demonstrates our commitment to nurturing the next generation of construction professionals,” explains Mike. “We believe in combining practical experience with innovative construction techniques to elevate industry standards.” The award recognised McCore Group’s achievement in completing the project a week ahead of schedule and within budget, while maintaining high standards of health and safety with zero major incidents. The company’s use of advanced project management software PROCORE, and lean construction principles, contributed to significant cost efficiencies without compromising on quality. Mike says the success of the Lightbox Project is reflected in the positive feedback from the architectural team at Novak+Middleton, which praised the seamless implementation of complex satisfaction with the final outcome. He says McCore Group is proud to be a member of the NZCBIA, a non-profit professional organisation that represents a wide range of businesses and professionals in the building industry in New Zealand, as well as the Kiwi businesses and professionals that have close working relationships within the Chinese building sector. “This recognition from NZCBIA validates our approach to residential development,” says Mike. “The project was completed within the budget with a favourable return on investment, demonstrating efficient financial management and cost-saving measures without compromising on quality.” High Grade Building Ltd Delivering Beyond Expectations Proudly supporting McCore Group High Grade Building Ltd is a leading building team based in Auckland.
