ShedEx Northland ““We build on strength and quality, and we are very fussy about this. We won’t accept low-quality materials or workmanship on a building. If we have a concern about a specified product, we will let the client know.” REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT As part of a well-resourced nationwide franchise, ShedEx Northland provides turnkey design, construction and project management for builds of virtually any scale. ShedEx’s ability to offer both lightweight cold-formed steel and structural steel building systems sets it apart from many of its competitors, ShedEx Northland franchisee Markus Wiese says. ShedEx Northland previously traded as part of a national licence under corporate ownership, but has taken the opportunity to join ShedEx New Zealand, an independently owned New Zealand company specialising in the design and construction of a wide range of buildings. ShedEx’s range of residential, commercial, industrial and rural buildings includes garages, carports and shelters, workshops and a wide variety of storage sheds for various needs and applications, while its structural steel buildings can be built to suit virtually any purpose, Markus says. “Whilst cold-form steel is very cost-effective, it does have a limited span capacity, and once it is reached, internal columns and supports may be required. It is at this point that other designs such as hot-formed steel, concrete tilt panel or hybrid construction should be considered.” Nationally, ShedEx has access to in-house designers, quantity surveyors and engineers, which enables it to offer a full design-andbuild and project-management service, and as a point of difference over companies that offer lightweight construction, ShedEx Northland is aiming to focus more on commercial projects. “ShedEx Northland prides itself on being a solution-driven design and construction company, working closely with our clients to achieve high-quality, value-driven projects that we can all be proud of. “We build on strength and quality, and we are very fussy about this. We won’t accept low-quality materials or workmanship on a building. If we have a concern about a specified product, we will let the client know,” Markus says. Highlighting the product’s quality and strength, ShedEx NZ has built a water-treatment plant in the Central North Island that has an IL4 (importance level four) seismic rating for being a building of essential importance, which demands a high level of structural engineering. Another recent project ShedEx Northland was proud to have a key role in is a new 1300sqm, high-end cool store facility built for Kaikohe Berryfruit, a venture that grows strawberries and other high-value crops under 10 hectares of polytunnels on a 28- hectare site just outside Kaikohe. ShedEx Northland was awarded the turnkey design, construction and project management contract which comprised 782sqm of chiller/ packhouse and amenities. It was built with cold-rolled purlin construction and with a clear span of 22 metres, while the 155sqm of offices and toilets were constructed with steel wall and ceiling frames. Materials specified included 627sqm of 100mm-thick PIR insulated panel for the inwards and despatch chillers and packhouse/ dry goods areas. This $3 million project is just one of many turnkey design and construction developments completed by ShedEx Northland across a wide variety of sectors that have ranged from $20,000 to $5 million during the past two years. Markus reflects that the change in the business model has been very successful in Northland, due to committing proactively to promoting the new brand.
