74 | MANUFACTURING Spectrum Architectural Metal T T Hugh de Lacy Metal manufacturer a market leader Spectrum is strong in the education sector, recently manufacturing and installing the balustrading and louvre screens for the new Albany Primary School. “A growing number of construction companies are also using our engineering team for custom manufacture of metal components such as brackets and custom sheet-metal items.” The demand for balustrading in commercial and residential buildings is keeping Hamilton-headquartered firm Spectrum Architectural Metal’s big new factory busy as the Waikato region powers out of the recent economic downturn. Proprietary architectural systems and custom architectural metalwork products are designed and manufactured at Spectrum’s Winders Road, Burbush factory. The site installation teams cover the installation of Spectrum’s aluminium and glass balustrades, louvres, shrouds and overhead glazing products within the Golden Triangle of Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga. With a staff of 60, Spectrum covers the full product build process from design, producer statements and drafting, to manufacture and installation of its popular aluminium and glass products, which sets them apart from many of their competitors. “Having full control, from the design process right through to the fitting of the final screw, gives us and our clients the confidence that the project will be done right,” Spectrum sales manager Mark Landkroon says. While architectural project work is the mainstay of the company, distribution of its architectural systems through an agent network is growing. The engineering division is a leading supplier of sheet metal engineering services to the electrical industry in the form of electrical enclosures and cabinets. “A growing number of construction companies are also using our engineering team for custom manufacture of metal components such as brackets and custom sheet-metal items,” Mark says. “We deal with most construction companies, so it’s an easy add-on for them to what we already provide. Since the company was founded in 1976, we have grown considerably and changed our product and service mix over the years. “Our mission is to be the preferred supplier for quality fabricated metal products, achieved through innovation, integrity and teamwork. We have strategically evolved into a market leader in the metalwork manufacturing space, and continue to strive to fulfill our mission.” Spectrum is strong in the education sector, recently manufacturing and installing the balustrading and louvre screens for the Albany Primary School for Watts and Hughes. “We have balustrade options to cover different occupancy levels, and a skilled design team focused on providing workable solutions,” Mark says. Spectrum works alongside all the leading retirement village operators, with many completed projects including The Botanic luxury retirement village for Matvin and MAKO in Silverdale, Auckland, which included glass balustrading, woodgrain-finished aluminium louvres and massive custom louvre feature panels. Spectrum is also strong in the apartment and multi-unit building space, where it’s involved with social housing as well as developer-initiated projects. It recently completed a complex project with Kalmar, with shrouds wrapped round glazed balustrades, louvres and perforated panels at the Onehunga Mall Club. Another example of its work is on Lake Road, Northcote, Auckland, a large Kainga Ora development built by Leighs Construction, requiring aluminium balustrades, louvres and façade elements to frame the decks. “To make all this possible, our new factory is exceptionally well-equipped, not just with topend machinery and manufacturing capacity, but also with staff who are as loyal as they are skilled,” Mark says. 09 527 8168 martin@nzali.co.nz www.nzali.co.nz Proudly supporting Spectrum Architectural Metal • Aluminium Products • Importer & Distributor • Dulux & Interpon Certified Applicator SERVICES INCLUDING: • Extensive Powder Coating Colors • Fast Job Turn Around • 100% NZ Owned and Operated • Two 60m Long Continuous Lines • 0.65mWide X 2.3m High x18m Long Oven • 0.5mWide X 1.8mHigh X 7.4m Long Pretreatment Tank
