| 83 Automate-X works in partnership with clients to come up with a solution specific to each business, integrating solutions with whatever different systems there may be on site. ENGINEERING Jordan does a lot of Automate X’s marketing, while currently focusing on growing the intralogistics and warehouse automation market in New Zealand and Australia. Intralogistics describes the flows of goods and materials that take place on a company’s site, both the physical systems such as conveyor belts, and the supporting information systems that keep track of it all. “It’s everything inside the warehouse, once the manufacturing is complete. So, for example, a packet of chips comes along a line and gets automated into a box and then the boxes are packed on to the pallet and then the pallets get distributed to an automated storage system,” he explains. Automate-X makes extensive use of autonomous mobile robots (AMR) in its warehouse automation systems. Rather than a person walking around a warehouse selecting products, AMRs operate within a closed grid (for safety) to collect products to order before interfacing with people at key points. “Because there are multiple robots, there’s a software layer coordinating all their traffic and optimising their movements, while also keeping track of stock and supplies, to fill orders and bring them to the staff picker for scanning and moving on to the next automated station as the orders are filled,” says Jordan.
