| 91 CONTRACTING PPCS - Pro Service Extending its reach nationwide In addition to commercial cleaning, PPCS today offers hygiene services, security services, grounds maintenance, building operations and maintenance. T T Russell Fredric Once an Auckland-centric business providing professional cleaning in the education sector, PPCS today offers a comprehensive suite of services in 21 New Zealand centres. Of these 21 cities and towns where PPCS operates today, five are in the South Island, reflecting the remarkable growth of the business which now employs 950 full and part-time staff. Chief executive Sarel Bloem says that after the prolonged growth the company experienced since it was established by Andrew Ho in 1991, PPCS is now a focused on consolidating the family-owned business into a more corporate model while retaining its strong family values. Sarel was appointed to the newly created chief executive role in November 2023.“We set up a board last year, restructured the business and that’s when the new role came in.” For the first two decades, PPCS primarily focused on cleaning schools and educational facilities. However, as opportunities arose the company diversified to provide its services into other sectors. One example was being approached by Sylvia Park, New Zealand’s largest shopping centre, which invited PPCS to quote for its cleaning contract, partly due to its proven reputation in the education sector. “They liked our family values and the fact that we stood by our staff. That’s how we got into retail, and now we service shopping centres all over the country. The same sort of thing happened with other sectors.” “We genuinely care about our staff. We know we can’t exist as a company without them. Our people come first; it’s about the company taking care of its people so they can take care of our clients.” PPCS’s commitment to its staff is revealed in the company’s staff retention rate which benchmarks well ahead of its competitors, Sarel says. In addition to commercial cleaning, PPCS today offers hygiene services, security services, grounds maintenance, building operations and maintenance. It also has a specialist services division that provides comprehensive water damage and mould remediation, structural drying, carpet and upholstery cleaning, fire and smoke restoration and indoor air quality testing backed by an IIRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification) ensuring adherence to the highest international standards. Providing such a broad range of services across a variety of sectors requires a robust quality assurance programme, consequently PPCS’ national head office holds ISO 9001:2015 accreditation ensuring best industry practices, and services are consistently delivered to the industry standards. While the company is not looking to grow its service offerings, it aims to expand its geographic presence in areas where it does not currently operate. PPCS company also plans to introduce specialised services, such as security and hygiene in regions where it already operates but does not yet provide these services. Innovation is also on the agenda. In several malls and shopping centres throughout New Zealand, PPCS has deployed autonomous floor scrubbers. These machines are not only extremely thorough, they also create detailed reports of “every square inch that has been cleaned.” Importantly, their use does not lead to staff redundancies and PPCs is likely to increase the use of robotics, Sarel says. “We always have a person on-site in case something goes wrong. This also allows them to focus on detailed cleaning tasks they might not otherwise get to.” Kiwi maintenance Group is an industry leader in the field of external cleaning. We are dedicated to the delivery of our nationwide services and exceeding customer expectations. As a result, we form solid ongoing relationships with our customers and provide them with consistent, high quality solutions to all their exterior cleaning needs. We take great pride in the fact that our company is 10 years strong and still “Keepin’ it lcean all over New Zealand”. Among our strongest principles is our commitment to safety. This is evident with the first-class health and safety accreditation we hold at KMG. /KIWIMAINTENANCE /KIWIMAINTENANCE WWW.KMGROUP.CO.NZ INFO@KMGROUP.CO.NZ 09 827 6550
