Established three decades ago, from its base in Te Puke the company has set itself apart to incorporate a painting division, kitchens and joinery and, more recently, adding a plumbing division employing nearly 60 staff. Having all four businesses under the one umbrella creates considerable advantages, including seamless project management co-ordinated from one office with just one point of contact and an efficient, hassle-free service that eliminates the possibility of sub-contractor delays. Shawn Williamson Building is experienced in building commercial projects to tight deadlines such with as a current project, a large new shed in Edgecumbe for kiwifruit packer EastPack. Project manager Josh Rosoman says Shawn Williamson Building has a history of completing many successful builds across EastPack’s sites. “We aim to build the best product within the time required frame. Obviously with the kiwifruit industry there are always really tight time frames. You’ve only got that short window from when the last season finishes to the start of the new season. Basically we just make it happen; I think that’s why they keep coming to us. “EastPack is pretty loyal to their contractors. They always seem to be extending or renovating cool stores or packhouses so it’s basically a constant flow if you do a good job, which Williamson’s does.” The new packhouse in Edgecumbe is a crucial item of infrastructure for EastPack that will house a new automated high speed grader. While the shed is a steel structure with coloured steel walls and PIR roofing for thermal insulation, fire and moisture fire resistance, at 85 metres long and 75 metres wide for a footprint of more than 6000 square metres, it is massive and is being joined into an existing building. While the design and structure of the shed is straight forward, the groundwork was more complex. 07 304 9468 www.beulah.nz ÎÚ Boxing, Placing & Readymix Supply The load-bearing ground under the shed’s concrete floor featured a geogrid — a roll-out plastic mesh that offers significant advantages for foundation and geotechnical engineering, particularly in soil stabilization and reinforcement and is a high-strength, cost-effective, sustainable alternative to traditional construction methods. The shed is expected to be completed this March. A Registered Master Builder and Licensed Building Practitioner, Shawn Williamson Building is a trusted Ministry of Education contractor and also undertakes a lot of health sector work, including retirement villages and it’s also known for its quality residential builds. The volume of work the business has the capacity to handle is reflected in Josh alone having responsibility for seven crews working on seven sites early this year, with its size and diversity effectively insulating it from economic cycles, he says.
