| 37 REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Vessel Works Tauranga’s Marine Re lections are yacht re it and restoration specialists, providing tailored services for both New Zealand and international owners. For Aaron Layne, who founded Marine Re lections in 2005, working on boats is not just a job but a passion honed over several decades in the marine industry. At Marine Re lections, he leads a dedicated team delivering excellence on projects of all sizes. Marine Re lections is approved to work at all Bay of Plenty marinas, including Sulphur Point Marina and Tauranga Bridge Marina. Aaron observes that the opening of Vessel Works and its 350-tonne travelift in 2018 was “a gamechanger” for the region. Today, it’s at the heart of a highly skilled marine servicing and supply hub. “Tauranga is a hidden gem in New Zealand’s marine industry,” says Aaron. “A lot of boats go to Whangārei and Opua with comparatively few going to Tauranga, and yet we have world-class tradespeople here. Every time we get vessels from overseas coming in here they can’t believe the standard of the facilities and workmanship. A lot of our American clients who show up here say they’ve never seen anything like it.” As well as Vessel Works’ facilities, Marine Re lections draws on Bridge Marina’s 35 tonne travelift and Sulphur Point Marina’s 60-tonne catamaran trailer. “We’re fully mobile to work in di erent marinas, as needed, with shedding and facilities at all three marinas.” On average, Marine Re lections is working on two or three boats per week. Their services range from project managing new builds to repairs and maintenance, upgrades, painting and inishing, hull services and marine valet services. Summer is a busy time for polishing and touch-ups, while winter tends to be more focussed on larger re it work and progressive maintenance. “This is an ideal time of year for boatowners to get in touch with us about their repainting, upgrade or alteration plans. We also o er a scheduled maintenance service and monthly cut-and-polish. We try and provide a one-stop shop to make boating easy for owners.” Marine Re lections employs a 16-strong team, including experienced marine painters and boat builders, and has long-standing relationships with suppliers, marinas and specialist contractors to ensure a seamless re it experience. Whether it’s managing a modest re it or a lavish superyacht makeover, Aaron says it’s hugely rewarding to meet so many interesting people from all walks of life and from all over the world. “By the time you inish working on their boat, you wouldn’t call them colleagues – they’re more like family.” CONTACT Marine Re lections to get your boat at its best in 2026 M: 0275 135 863 (Aaron) E: aaron@marinere lections.co.nz marinere lections.co.nz Tauranga ‘a hidden gem’ in NZ’s marine industry NEW ZEALAND YACHT REFIT SPECIALISTS For yachts 10-50m We provide tailored yacht refit and restoration services for owners who want premium standards and complete peace of mind while your vessel is in our care.
