MANUFACTURING Magnum Equipment T T Karen Phelps “At Spedding Road we are right in the centre of the action near this new industrial subdivision…” Magnum Equipment is set to make a major move in Auckland, shifting operations to a new location at 10 Spedding Road, Whenuapai. The company, founded in 2001, has built a 500sqm workshop that is already operational with plans for a larger 2000sqm facility, aiming to start construction in the second quarter of this year and finish by late 2026. The new site, adjacent to the Spedding Industrial Estate — currently one of Auckland’s largest industrial subdivision — offers better access for customers compared with the previous 1000sqm workshop on Don Buck Road in Massey, which was hampered by heavy traffic, says company owner Liam Field. “At Spedding Road we are right in the centre of the action near this new industrial subdivision and it will make things much easier for our customers to access us,” he says Liam says the relocation will also allow Magnum Equipment to expand its hire offering. “We are looking to supply rental buckets, rock breakers, plate compactors, concrete saws, and everything you would normally find at a general construction machinery and equipment hire company. It’s due to client demand. We are heading where the customer wants us.” Magnum Equipment has carved a niche in New Zealand’s construction and heavy machinery sector through its commitment to quality and service. Initially specialising in excavators, the company now offers rollers, wheeled loaders, graders, bulldozers, rock crushers, trucks and small plant equipment. “We wanted to cover every need for our customers, whether they were hiring or buying outright,” says Liam. A major point of difference is its role as the sole New Zealand agent for Japanese Morooka and Turkish Hidromek machinery. Morooka machines are designed for wet conditions, thanks to wide rubber tracks and a turntable design allowing the top part of the machine to rotate independently. “These machines help clients work efficiently without getting stuck, offering a practical solution for challenging terrain,” explains Liam. Hidromek machines are renowned for high quality, fuel efficiency, and work capacity. “Their digging buckets are large, making them ideal for projects where productivity and fuel economy matter. Hidromek is always coming up with new innovative ideas and constantly creating new equipment which will raise the bar of expectations.” Liam says Magnum Equipment can offer a wide range of Morooka and Hidromek equipment with customisation options which can be delivered in 90 days. In addition to new machinery, Magnum imports used construction equipment from Japan, allowing it to offer high-quality machines at competitive prices. “We’ve developed a strong supply network, which allows us to lead in supplying this type of market. This focus on quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness has helped us build a loyal customer base among some of New Zealand’s biggest construction companies,” says Liam. The company also operates a large hire fleet, covering small plant gear to heavy machinery, all serviced on-site to maintain high standards while keeping prices reasonable. “We’re 100% Kiwi-owned and operated, and we know the value of hard work. We help other hard-working Kiwis by cutting out the unnecessary hassle and keeping their projects moving,” says Liam. Despite a quiet period in the construction industry the company has used the downtime to strengthen its operations and broaden its services. “We’re definitely seeing more enquiry, and we are hoping things continue to pick up over 2026.
