| 23 Recent projects completed by Gibson O’Connor include the construction of these warehouse and office units in Northside Drive, Westgate. Completed just before lockdown last year, the project was a complete design-and-build contract. Gibson O’Connor Construction DEVELOPMENT Strong leadership, highly skilled sta and diversi ication have been the four cornerstones of success for Onehunga irm SuperCut Engineering Ltd. The roots of the business go back to 2012 when Managing Director Robin Liu established a small business selling drill bits and other steel fabrication tools. With the success of that business, in 2015 Robin saw an opportunity to steer SuperCut Engineering towards structural steel fabrication and installation in the Auckland area. “We started with small projects and the business went very well and then the larger projects started to low in,” says Yooann Zhang, SuperCut Engineering’s Quantity Surveyor. The company’s next major milestone occurred in 2017 when Robin decided to diversify the business o ering adding metalwork fabrication to SuperCut Engineering’s portfolio. Working in stainless, aluminium and copper, the business produced bespoke balustrades, handrails, gutters and lashings and bespoke facades. “Having the two parts of the business is something quite special in the industry,” explains Yooann. “We’re one of the very few businesses that can o er our clients structural steel fabrication and metal work under the one roof. Gibson O’Connor Construction is one of our oldest customers and they often look to us for both packages for their projects.” Comprehensive service In 2019, SuperCut Engineering’s production of metal fabrication was signi icantly accelerated with the purchase of two CNC folding machines capable of custommaking a diverse range of lashings and signi icantly increasing capacity. A new CNC Laser-cutting machine for structural steel fabrication work has been ordered and is on the water. While delivery has been delayed it is expected the machine will be installed and operational within the next couple of months. Adding to SuperCut Engineering’s diversity, a related business selling PPE clothing was added in 2019. Operating throughout the North Island, about 95% of SuperCut Engineering’s work is industrial/ commercial with the remainder being specialised residential work. “We have just completed a project in Wellington, fabricating and installing the structural steel work in a warehouse there. But we have completed the structural steelwork for a lot of high-end ‘A Class’ bach properties in Pauanui near Tauranga.” The SuperCut team is made up of forty highly quali ied and experienced welders who are all involved in every aspect of the business. “Our customers bene it from a strong team culture and a drive for quality,” says Yooann. 09 634 0988 • yooannzhang.supercut@gmail.com 135 Captain Springs Road, Onehunga, Auckland
