In the middle of the building is an atrium light shaft, which is 6 metres across, and then on the south side we have a series of smaller and more afforda- ble apartments that receive sunlight from the atrium. The base of the atrium has a garden, which sits above the carparking area. So when you look down you will see a decorative garden.” While Colin was the lead architect for this project, he says Leuschke Group’s process is to subject the design to collaborative in-house critique, providing the client with the architec- tural team’s collective wisdom. “With the level of collaboration we do, it’s sometimes hard to know which part you did. For a mid size company this process enables us to design large buildings with confidence.” One of the design features Colin particularly likes is the way the building wraps around from Jervois Street to Lawrence Street. The corner is celebrated. “The building runs along Jervois Road, then turns 90 degrees to go down the slope of Law- rence Street. I think it takes that corner very well and becomes a landmark. As you come around the corner into Lawrence Street the building cuts back over the front entrance so that the corner bank of apartments on Jervois Road gets a big view down to the harbour bridge, which brings great amenity to those apartments.” T to page 31 RELIABLE COLLECTION SERVICES For Apartments, O ces & Hospitality RUBBISH DIRECT: Proudly associated with Jervois & Lawrence 6 www.rubbishdirect.co.nz Residential development and alterations specialists 107 Kitchener Road, Auckland W amxstructures.co.nz | P 09 213 0775 | E office@amxstructures.co.nz The highest levels of quality has been achieved both inside and out through craftsmanship, design and the choice of materials.
