BUILDING Best Nest Building Company T Sue Russell A fter a decade working together on com- mercial developments Luke Jones and James Bird decided it was time to step out and set up their own company. “Having had all those years on sites togeth- er we definitely knew we wanted to work to- gether. When we officially put our names out there we were inundated with interest which was really gratifying,” Luke explains. Best Nest Building Company was founded in 2015 and, today employs 6 builders; a mix of qualified and apprentices. Luke splits his week between being on the tools and meeting with clients, while James is the construction manager, overseeing all projects on site. It makes for a very efficient and effective building business. Projects rangebetween commercial work, predominantly in West Auckland and resi- dential projects, which can be across a large geographic. A large commercial multi-unit project is currently underway at 20 Kawakawa Place. Owned by Haas Developments, who had purchased the land, along with a site next door, when completed the commercial prem- ises lots will be leased out to a number of commercial businesses. Built of pre-cast panel, construction work began in August last year with Luke expecting completion at the end of April. “We’re just putting the Nu-wall cladding on the buildings now and starting to install gib so things should roll on pretty quickly from here to completion.” Best Nest Building Company has another large commercial development in Hobsonville set to get underway, and another project at 22 Kawakawa Place. The company also has a number of high end bespoke residential builds in theb pipe- line that will be the focus for the residential building team, with a number of projects in the pipe-line. “The commercial project we have starting in May will consist of the same building styles and materials as 20 Kawakawa Place, with aluminium cladding for low maintenance, and with over 600 lineal metres of concrete pre cast panels to be installed,” says Luke. Residential projects in the pipeline are a blend between high end bespoke builds that will use multiple cladding materials and will also include pre cast concrete and insitu concrete work and residential renovations and extensions. “I like the balance we have between com- mercial and residential it gives our younger guys and team such a broad range of building knowledge. “On projects like the Kawakawa Place job we’re all together on site to give the large manpower pushes when it is needed, and at other times we break into a smaller residential group to work on a wide range of projects.” Luke says client interaction and engage- ment is essential. “You know, what I’ve experienced is that price often isn’t the key-driver at all. In fact it tends to come up as the top priority only when the client isn’t confident. “We pride ourselves on the quality of com- munication with clients which underpins the best working relationship. “We are here to help the client with their building journey every step of the way from assisting with design at the beginning of the project to getting Council Code of Compliance we make the journey as seamless as possible.” Best Nest Building Co are BCITO Certified, qualified Master Builders and Licensed Build- ing Practitioners.
