| 33 Waipa: CST Group REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Significant subdivisions and infrastructure projects Karen Phelps The company boasts a highly experienced team of service technicians who are well trained to tackle an extensive range of jobs. Cambridge based CST Group is assisting Waipa to grow offering the region a wide range of septic, water and industrial services. Its industrial division is the most recent addition to the Group, started in 2020, and offers hydro excavation, water jetting/drain unblocking, and CCTV drain inspections. Company operations manager Darryl Brewer says that the division has been busy working on some significant subdivisions and infrastructure projects in the region including the 3MS development at Cambridge where it is cleaning and inspecting pipelines and completing hydro excavation. “We have the capacity to flush both domestic and industrial pipes from 100-1000mm in diameter,” explains Darryl. “After the pipes have been jetted we are able to provide a CCTV inspection of the pipework. This inspection will provide a report on the condition of the pipes and can be used to locate any problems in the pipework. Hydro excavation is an alternative to manual digging and is ideal for locating or working around utilities e.g. gas, water and fibre optics. It has many benefits compared to manual labour including efficiency, safety, and smaller environmental impact.” The CST Group HydroVac has a six-inch boom and can operate up to a 10-metre lift. It uses pressurised water to break the soil, which is then vacuumed up into the truck. Other applications include post and pile holes and trench digging where excavators can’t reach or to avoid damage to major tree roots. Darryl says the service is both cost and time effective. With its accuracy in locating services and working around them it reduces the risk of potential delays from accidents/repairs to utilities compared to manual digging. As it allows you to excavate soil in a non-destructive way, it reduces the harm to the environment with less debris and dust that you would typically find with manual digging.” Darryl says the company boasts a highly experienced team of service technicians that are well trained to tackle an extensive range of jobs and committed to provide an exceptional customer experience. “Waipa, along with other parts of New Zealand, is growing and we are growing to keep up with demand,” says Darryl. “We’re constantly adding to our plant and staff numbers.” It was partly due to growth the company rebranded in 2020 as CST Group, which today incorporates CST Septic, CST Water and CST Industrial. The family owned and operated business based in Cambridge was established in 1999 by Darryl’s father Barry who originally purchased Cambridge Septic Tank Services. The company expanded into water delivery in 2011. CST Septic continues to provide septic tank cleaning and liquid waste collection, while CST Water provides bulk potable water delivery, ideal for rural properties. The reach of CST Group is wide: it works in the greater Waikato, down to Taupō and up to Auckland. This has seen it recently work on projects such as the Taupō Town Centre Transformation project and numerous contracts closer to home. “As a company we are very customer focused and are always ready to go that extra mile to help people out, which in turn means we have built an extremely positive relationship with the community.”
