In a booming market the practice has expanded from Kaitaia to Kerikeri and Whangarei meaning great opportunities for those seeking a life out of the rat race of the larger centres. One of Arcline’s business owners Trent Simpkin says that many people don’t realise the benefits Northland offers, but when they do make the move he says they are rarely disappointed. “Kaitaia has just won the ‘most beautiful small town’ award. We have both coasts within half an hour’s drive of each other, a ton of beaches and a relaxed lifestyle,” he says. The company culture of Arcline is another draw card for those seeking opportunity outside the larger centres. The company was started by Trent’s father Alan when he left school and went building. In 2003 he switched to concentrating just on design, pursuing what he loved most and surrounding himself with draftsmen, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects and town planners. The business has a strong family focus, with Trent’s brother Tristan also and owner of the business. While Alan still takes the lead on design Trent covers sales and marketing and Tristan the financial and technical aspects. Over the three offices a team of around 13 staff is employed plus contractors. Trent says the team enjoys working on the wide array of projects that Arcline completes. It’s another advantage of the region, where builds can range from modest to multi million dollar homes as well as commercial properties and retirement villages. Arcline not only works locally but all over New Zealand. Trent says like many businesses Arcline is struggling to find the employees to keep up with growth. Aucklanders wanting to get out of the city and move north, as well Kiwi’s returning from overseas, are fuelling demand for Arcline’s services. Arcline is the largest architectural design firm in Northland focusing primarily on residential homes, says Trent. “People think it is about the intellectual side and the qualifications, which are important of course but it is more about personality and attitude and a willingness to understand the standards we adhere to professionally.” The Arcline Architecture team. 4 of Engineering Excellence 0YEARS 800 HAIGHS (0800 424 447) info@haighworkman.co.nz www.haighworkman.co.nz CIVIL ENVIRONMENTAL STRUCTURAL GEOTECHNICAL KERIKERI / WHANGAREI / WARKWORTH
