| 129 Omokoroa Golf Club: Iline Construction T T Kelly Deeks Golf Club set for transformation The new clubhouse, set to open around July or August, promises to be the heart of Ōmokoroa Golf Club and the wider community. “It’s about creating a space where people can come for a coffee, have a bistro-style lunch, hold a meeting, or enjoy an event.” A major transformation is underway at Ōmokoroa Golf Club, with a new clubhouse set to open mid-year, designed to cater not just to golfers but to the wider community. The rebuild comes as the peninsula sees a surge of new homes and young families, and the club sees an increase in membership, creating demand for a modern, flexible space for events, dining, and recreation. Club manager Allan Botha says the project grew out of the club’s five-year strategic plan and, following a review to renovate or rebuild, it was decided to start afresh. The rebuild was proven necessary during demolition when it was discovered the old foundations weren’t suitable for refurbishment. “The slab was 45 years old, and the footings weren’t strong enough, so our board, our building committee, and our contractor iLine Construction’s decision to undertake a full rebuild was the best approach.” By mid-2025 a builder had been selected and designs were underway. Demolition of the old clubhouse began in October. The new clubhouse sits on the original footprint but is slightly larger, offering multiple function spaces to host simultaneous events. “Previously, the old rooms could only accommodate one group at a time,” Allan says. “Now we can run a function for 80-100 people on one side while the other side can host a separate event of a similar size.” Food and beverage offerings are also getting a major upgrade. The club’s intention is to deliver a high-quality dining and bar experience for members and visitors. “It’s about creating a space where people can come for a coffee, have a bistro-style lunch, hold a meeting, or enjoy an event.” Construction is being managed by iLine Construction, whose team has impressed the club with their professionalism. Project manager Glenn Temple oversees daily operations, while the club’s own project manager, Fintan Downes, brings decades of commercial building experience. “Fintan has ensured the project stays on track, and he’s insisted on absolutely no variations to help control costs and keep the plan intact,” Allan says. While work continues, club operations have adapted. Temporary offices, a marquee for up to 90 people, and portable facilities have allowed events to continue. Allan praises members for their patience and support. “Even with plastic cups and temporary spaces, members have kept coming out, keeping the club spirit alive,” he says. He reflects on the unique opportunity to witness a clubhouse being rebuilt. Life members have shared memories of the old building and are excited to make new ones in the modern facility. “It’s rare for managers to be part of a rebuild from start to finish. Seeing members excited for the future has been a real privilege,” he says.
