Andrew Simms Group REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT The Andrew Simms Group has opened the doors to its newest flagship development, New Zealand’s first dedicated DENZA dealership, located at 50 Great South Road in Newmarket. Purpose‑built to introduce BYD’s premium luxury sub‑brand to the local market, the new showroom represents a significant milestone in both the company’s growth and the evolution of New Zealand’s dealership landscape, says shareholder Matthew Wales. He says the development was conceived with a clear vision: to create a retail environment that reflects the elevated quality, craftsmanship, and technology of the DENZA brand. “This wasn’t just a fit‑out; it was an opportunity to set a new benchmark for the way premium hybrid and EV vehicles are showcased in New Zealand,” says Matthew. “The design needed to be immersive, refined, and truly representative of the product.” To ensure the new dealership aligned with international DENZA standards, the brand appointed SLA, an internationally renowned nature‑based design studio, to oversee the rollout across Australia and New Zealand. The resulting nature‑inspired concept informed the overall visual identity and boutique‑style customer experience. In New Zealand, Andrew Simms Group partnered with RCG who adapted SLA’s global concept to local design requirements, building codes and sustainability standards. This included the specification of locally sourced building materials, ensuring the space not only met DENZA’s aesthetic expectations but also supported New Zealand suppliers. The fit-out was delivered by PCI as the main contractor with electrical works completed by Pengelly Bennett and Sons and a wide network of New Zealand suppliers who specified products available within the project’s unusually short lead time. Despite the complexity and premium detailing involved, the entire fit‑out was completed in just three weeks, demonstrating the capability and coordination of all parties involved, says Matthew. The finished environment features three bespoke display suites, each dedicated to an individual DENZA model. “This gallery‑style layout allows customers to explore each vehicle in a calm, uninterrupted space, similar to the experience of a luxury retail showroom.” Material choices, including stone accents, soft‑touch finishes and leather detailing, were carefully selected to match the craftsmanship and technology of the DENZA brand, while remaining true to New Zealand’s design identity. “We wanted the space to feel intimate and high‑end but also welcoming,” says Matthew. “The experience of viewing a DENZA should feel different — more curated, more personal.” While the dealership itself is the focal point, it also marks the formal introduction of DENZA to the New Zealand market. The initial line‑up: the DENZA B5 and B8, both large SUVs, aligns perfectly with the country’s most in‑demand vehicle segment. “DENZA brings something genuinely new to the premium market,” says Matthew. “These vehicles offer performance and efficiency without compromising on comfort or design.” DENZA’s models integrate hybrid technology, long‑range capability and premium interiors, positioning the brand as a competitor in the luxury EV and hybrid space. With 14 dealerships across Auckland and Dunedin and more than 10,000 new vehicles sold annually, Matthew says the new DENZA Auckland City dealership represents both a strategic network expansion and a deepening partnership with BYD. “Our focus is on delivering the next generation of electrified mobility but in a way that still feels luxurious, intuitive and enjoyable,” says Matthew. “DENZA Auckland is a key part of that strategy.” From the craftsmanship of its boutique display suites to the efficiency of its high‑speed fit‑out, he says the DENZA Auckland City dealership stands as a modern example of what the future of automotive retail can look like. “The product is premium so the environment must be premium,” says Matthew. “This new dealership reflects exactly that.” High-Spec Dealership Delivered Fast Auckland electrical services company Pengelly Bennett & Sons has strengthened its reputation for high-spec, timely work with a recent design and build project for long-standing client Andrew Simms Group.
