Leisure Pools Auckland North LANDSCAPING T Sue Russell T hree years ago Alan Miller established Leisure Pools Auckland North, having returned from Australia, to be tapped on the shoulder by parent company Leisure Pools, to supply the market north of Auckland. World-wide Leisure Pools, manufactures more fibre-glass pools than any other com- pany and Alan says the benefits that come from choosing a fibre-glass pool speak for themselves. “They make the best swimming pools; the strongest in the world. We put a 35 year structural warranty on all our builds and a 35 year Warranty against Osmosis that’s how confident we are in the quality and longevity of our pools.” Alan says one of the key advantages their fibreglass pools offer is in creating a 100% water-barrier, to prevent the natural osmosis that occurs with water eventually penetrating a pools surface. Leisure Pools use a vinyl Esta Resin to stop this happening. This year, Leisure Pools Auckland North, receive four awards; two gold, for the Prefab- ricated Composite Pool over $30,000 and a Fibreglass Pool up to $60,000. “One pool is a straight rectangle in a dark blue colour. We call it the ‘Reflection’ and it measures 8m x 3.8m. The owners were very discerning. They own a fairly new home in a niche subdivision in Huapai. Their standards were very high.” Another project, called an Elegance Pool on a steep section in Coatesville, transformed the immediate space outside the home, increasing its useable area. “We built a pool and the deck surrounding the Pool was done by the owner creating a level area for them to enjoy with wonderful views. It just looks fantastic and has given the family a whole new life-style on the property.” Alan says he was quietly confident these pools would receive the recognition they deserved. Asked why he chose to take up the Auck- land North dealership Alan says working in the pool building sector is seriously exciting. “There’s a wow factor connected to provid- ing clients with a wonderful outdoor space we know they are going to enjoy for years.” Initial enquiries are usually on-line and Alan says, once someone has been in touch, Leisure Pools Auckland North, ensures contact is made within 24 hours. “We visit the site and start a conversation with them about what the possibilities are. Our pools are a classic rectangle in shape, from small to very large. There’s usually lots of questions and once there’s agreement on a specific design, a deposit is paid and we go ahead and put the order in to Australia.” Alan says his business takes care of all the necessary consenting aspects of the project, once the owner has chosen the type of fenc- ing. Taking care of consenting takes a huge responsibility off the owner and Alan under- stands Council’s systems well. “The consenting time is usually up to about 8 weeks and the pool we have ordered is usually here within that time, so once the paperwork has been taken care of the project is all set up ready to go.” Usually the dig takes one day and the neces- sary prep of the site one more day, ready to receive the pool. Once this has taken place the decking and landscaping can take place. Alan says the aim always is to ensure that once a client commits, there is little for them to then be involved with. “We’re big on communication, ensuring they understand where things are at, usually takes care of any concerns they may have.” Alan’s company takes care of all work north of Auckland through to Te Hana along with Auckland south. New technologies are also available, in- cluding robotic pool cleaners, energy efficient pumps and connectivity of pool systems to phones. He describes COVID as a double-edged sword. “We’ve had so much enquiry for pools and there are increasing uncertainties as to when materials will arrive.
