Transport Services’ origins go right back to the ‘70s, the genesis of Kiwifruit in the region, and has continued to evolve as a specialist diesel provider to a wide range of industry sectors. Paul Cooknell took over manage- ment of the business in 2009, and then along with his wife Theresa, made the decision to purchase it in 2019. In addition to Paul, Theresa, manag- er Shane and two support sta , Transport Services employs ive experienced and fully quali ied heavy diesel mechanics and two apprentic- es. “We’re a small family company and like to show those family values,” says Paul. “We treat all our sta as family by looking after them as best we can. It’s not easy to get a diesel mechanic in this day and age and we like to show howmuch we appreciate them. It’s the same with all sta , and in return we get that loyalty back. That strong family relationshipmakes a huge di erence and that seems to come through with customer loyalty as well.” While most business comes from Going the extra distance the local Te Puke area, loyal customers are also drawn from as far away as Waihi, Tauranga, Opotiki and Rotorua. The company also operates a 24/7 call out service and regularly visits the Kaimai Range. “We’re predominantly a heavy diesel workshop, servicing and maintaining heavy diesel vehicles and equipment including utes, heavy truck and trailer units, logging trucks, industrial diggers, loaders and agricultural equipment. We also look after a Go-Bus leet and we have a few clients who just have petrol cars.” A lot of the work is based around the Kiwifruit industry, and one of Transport Services’ longstanding customers is EHC Orchard Manage- ment, owned by TomHeeney. “Tom is a Kiwifruit contractor and does spraying, mulching and general orchardmanagement. He has a series of mostly transporter trucks, which we service, issue with COFs and do anything to do with heavy diesel. We’ve worked with Tom for years and years now and have always enjoyed a good relationship with him and his team.” Keeping customers informed, always going that extra distance to do the job well and always charging competitive rates has assured Trans- port Services of a long list of custom- ers loyal to the family friendly business.
