Founded in 2005 by directors Richard Cawson and Lance Pearson the business has grown from a small operation focused on maintenance in the Auckland CBD to a team of over 110 full-time employees, delivering a full suite of property services. While the company’s Head Office remains based in Auckland, branches have been established in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, reflecting a strong representation in the Upper North Island. While many of Access PIP’s clients are the Facility and Asset Managers of commercial, industrial, and retail buildings, the company also services large buildings owned by local and central government, such as the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Education. Although services are predominantly deliv- ered in the Upper North Island, the company successfully delivers services on a national scale. For clients such as Restaurant Brands, which owns a number of fast-food restaurants throughout the country, Access PIP provide an annual exterior cleaning programme to ensure these stores are maintained, improving the building’s overall lifecycle. In 2017, the business acquired one of the top waterproofing companies in Auckland, Gunac GME, rebranding it as Gunac Water- proofing Specialists. This provided the perfect complement to its offering to clients. Sales and Marketing Manager Craig Pearson says since acquiring Gunac, Access has been able to strengthen their offering for clients as a one-stop-shop solution from providing re- active repairs and maintenance and industrial abseiling to now also delivering large refur- bishment projects and waterproofing works to new and existing builds across the Upper North Island. “The Gunac | Waterproofing Specialists division is proud to be approved applicators for most of New Zealand’s well-known water- proofing systems. “These suppliers have seen the quality of work that we deliver and have given us their endorsement. “Being approved gives us a stronger advan- tage to tender and deliver large projects that require guaranteed high-quality water-proof- ing solutions” site by the Clutha District Council, all had an impact on the final design. “There are several ways of solving any problem from the foundation to the rooftop,” Scott says. “In the past things might have been driven by cost, but today it’s a lot more driven by what is safest. We have built the rooftop on the ground and craned it into place in one piece, rather than having guys working up at that height.” Stile and Hooker uses such strategies for safety in every design. Examples used on oth- er projects include high windows that can be turned inside out so they can be cleaned from the inside, avoiding any hazards involved with cleaning windows at height. And since every building will eventually be taken down, Stiles and Hooker works to en- sure that can happen safely, and the materials can be recycled. “It’s the whole life cycle of the building that we consider, not just how to build it.” This approach is appreciated and rewarded with a large majority of Stiles and Hooker’s work coming from repeat clients. “Waterproofing is essential to keeping the building envelope watertight. It often involves applying waterproofing membrane to a number of areas including as low as the foundations, to ensure there’s no water ingress through the soil, or as high as the guttering and roofing system.”
