Transbuild was established in 2012 by Sam Paterson, who had developed a passion for off-site manufacturing and the efficiencies it creates during his time in the building industry. “We’ve created efficiencies by utilising methods we have learned from overseas where they have been building off-site for many years,” he says. “We can offer certainty around timing and budget, creating dream homes for clients who will look back at the process and think it was far easier than they anticipated.” Starting out small, with a team of three staff creating two bedroom homes up to 100sqm, demand saw Transbuild up the ante in 2018 and offer four bedroom homes up to 150sqm. Key to Transbuild’s offering is each home is fully finished before being delivered to site. “Prefabricated homes have been around for many years, but they are often perceived as the cheap option. When people come to see our show homes they are surprised by the specifications and quality. Our homes are designed by our team of in-house architects with space optimisation in mind, and built in a controlled environment with sustainable construction methods for energy efficient homes.” Transbuild is now a team of about 60 staff and contractors , including up to 35 builders as well as subtrades and specialist trades building 26 homes at a time in the purpose built factory in Drury, South Auckland. “We want to make a positive difference,” Sam says. “We’re not only creating great homes, but we’re also giving back to the community and it’s people. We get great satisfaction out of helping people into high specification homes that they may have thought were out of their reach.” There has been a dramatic increase in demand since Covid lockdowns. Sam says many of his clients today are looking for a lifestyle change. Perhaps they are now able to work remotely, or they want to move closer to family, or maybe they want to decrease their large mortgage. “A lot of our clients in the rural or holiday spots like the Bay of Plenty and the Waikato are moving out of the city and choosing a lifestyle with their family.” People may be consciously choosing to live with a simplified footprint, but with Transbuild, that doesn’t mean compromising design. The company has a portfolio of 28 different floor plans offering a range of layouts to suit anyone’s personal preferences and site suitability. “To maximise the benefits of a transportable, we recommend you choose one of our existing layouts. Floorplans can be simply flipped or mirrored if required to maximise the key aspects of your site.” Transbuild also works with developer clients on large scale projects, and this year has delivered 60 new homes to a new developHigh-spec portable homes ment in South Auckland. Transbuild can bring multiple solutions to a development, including new homes as well as site buildings and showrooms, accommodation, and office blocks. “We understand time pressures that businesses operate under, so the ability to have site work development on going whilst building construction occurs in the factory is a key benefit when considering prefabrication compared to an onsite build.” The opportunity to considerably reduce time frames for projects and reduce onsite disruption enables realising rental income or inhabiting buildings sooner. “When people come to see our show homes they are surprised by the specifications and quality.”
