48 | Fire protection solutions at the cutting edge Ryanfire has also developed a product called Ryanmesh, which is the only New Zealand building code compliant product on the market for the use in ventilated cavities. Ryanfire T T Russell Fredric CONTRACTING As a one of New Zealand’s leading suppliers of passive fire protection solutions, Ryanfire has built its reputation on providing unique, cutting-edge passive fire protection products and services to the industry nationwide. General manager Ben Graves explains that passive fire protection is a broad terminology for containing or slowing fire spread within a building through the use of materials and structures such as fire walls, fire doors and ensuring that services penetrating through walls, floors and ceilings will not allow the transmission of fire. Headquartered in Auckland, the company employs more than 20 staff and has manufacturing facilities in Christchurch. Its product range includes a vast array of products to seal around services penetrating fire walls, floors and ceilings such as fire collars, fire sleeves, mastics, sealants, graphite straps and high-density rock fibre boards. Other product lines include structural steel protection boards, façade fire stop systems, ventilated cavity fire seals, liner gap seals and a large selection of seismic fire stop products. Ryanfire has also developed a product called Ryanmesh, which is the only New Zealand building code compliant product on the market for the use in ventilated cavities. Alternate products available have been tested to overseas standards, which allow the cavities to remain open for up to five minutes. Within this time there is potential for the fire to spread up the outside of the building. By comparison, Ryanmesh has been tested to AS1530.4: 2014 and closes almost instantly to prevent fire spreading. “The development of Ryanmesh is a prime example of Ryanfire products being designed and tested for the NZ market,” Ben says. The Loafers Lodge fire early this year in Wellington, in which five people died, has thrown a spotlight on building warrant of fitness inspections and businesses checking their fire protection systems and level of compliance. In addition to being a product manufacturer and supplier, Ryanfire offers specification guidance for architects, designers, and developers as well as friendly on or off-site support through a dedicated technical team. “We also offer a service where we will go through all the architectural and service drawings to create a full schedule of all the passive fire penetrations in the building. “That’s a free service we offer to ensure the most practical, compliant, and cost-effective solutions are being specified.” Ryanfire has grown and innovated to the degree that its products are now in many New Zealand buildings. “We are continually looking at industry problems and coming up with new solutions. Ryanfire’s focus is on rigorous research, testing and collaboration with key partners to ensure that the products we deliver to market are fit for purpose. We don’t make assumptions and we don’t guess.” Accredited fire testing is the only real proof that life and property are sufficiently protected, Ben says. “We base our range on tests, results, and facts, not opinions; in fact, our company slogan is “doubt it, test it, trust it.” Ryanfire can offer customised solutions from the early design stage. “We understand that no one project will be the same and there are always variables to be considered, therefore our industry experience counts, and we continue to invest in product development and testing to be one step ahead.” “We base our range on tests, results, and facts, not opinions; in fact, our company slogan is “doubt it, test it, trust it.” Stopping Fire From Getting Through Passive Fire Installation | Auckland Commercial Industrial/Commercial Retrofit Buildings info@bakkerpfi.com | (09) 393 5516 | www.bakkerpfi.com Fire Alarm Testing / Service Proud to be associated with RyanFire Products Limited.
