| 99 Maintain to Profit - Waikato BUILDING T T Sue Russell Fleixibility vital in the reno space Maintain to Profit Waikato links with a Cambridge-based architect for major extensions and large renovation projects. having flexibility and the ability to adapt is the key for delivering successful building renovations says Kellie McLean, who, along with husband Shane, own and operate Maintain to Profit Waikato. The residential renovations business serves clients from throughout the Waikato region. Kellie says the business model, employing skilled trades contractors, works well as it is inherently flexible in its operation. “For a husband and wife business, we find this model suits us perfectly. We have a tremendous team of qualified tradespeople we can call on depending on the job. “They each bring to a build their own experiences and skills and they understand the quality we insist on to deliver our clients an exceptional outcome,” says Kellie. Purchasing the business just before Covid-19 arrived, didn’t really present as any great challenge as the couple received considerable support and guidance from business founders Mark Trafford and Dean Larritt. Kellie describes the renovation process as very efficient under this model, given often tradespeople don’t really want to be dealing with customers as such, and would rather be scheduled to come in at a given time to undertake their part of the build. “It means they are making the best use of their time, from their own business perspective and we can structure the trades to work on a build in such a way that the project runs very efficiently.” And given how much Kellie enjoys engaging with people, communicating with them throughout the project and in the pre-build planning phase, she says operating Maintain to Profit Waikato has been a really positive experience. “With Shane’s building experience and attention to detail and project management skills marked on every project we take on, we each bring our own strengths into the business.” Linking with a Cambridge-based architect on major extensions and large renovations, who articulates the clients design aspirations into 3D images and with an interior designer for kitchens and bathroom upgrades, Maintain to Profit, offers customers a no-fuss, efficient and positive building experience. The area Maintain to Profit Waikato covers extends north to Pokeno, on the Southern boundary to Auckland, through to Tokoroa in the South. When Business North spoke with Kellie, the company had approximiately 12 projects on the go, at various stages of completion. Kellie says not everyone has the capability to be successful in the renovation space, given it demands problem-solving skills, not found on new builds. There tends to be a lot more interaction with clients through the build as well. “When we were living in London, Shane undertook loft conversions, so he’s had years of experience working with space limitations and working in and around existing structures and services. I was managing a building, so we have complementary skills to bring to the table.” As one of a network of Maintain to Profit franchises, Kellie says its great when the group of business owners get together. “It can be isolating being in business on your own and it is really nice to talk to other women in the industry.” And with commitments to a young family, these are busy times for Shane and Kellie. “I often work in the evening and just make it all work especially while the children are very young. For us owning Maintain to Profit has proven a very positive business experience and its great to be working for ourselves.” 0800 333 122 admin@millerelectrical.co.nz For all your electrical needs in the Hamilton area Proudly supporting Maintain to Profit Waikato We're bringing the art of tiling to a whole new level.
