Established in 2021 by licensed building practitioner Ben Gourley and his wife Christina, the build company brings a diverse set of skills and capabilities to projects of every scale. Ben’s qualifications extend beyond building to encompass construction management and quantity surveying, giving the company a broad perspective on the intricacies of a comprehensive build project. BG Build Ltd prefers to take on as much of the work in-house as possible. “Wherever possible we prefer our carpenters to undertake the bulk of tasks on-site,” says Ben. While specialists are brought in for tasks that require a specific skill set, the core of the work remains with the BG Build team, allowing for consistent quality and craftsmanship across every project. At the core of BG Build Ltd is a committed team led by Ben, consisting of three qualified builders, an apprentice and Christina, who manages office operations. BG Build Ltd.’s primary focus is on high-end residential construction and comprehensive renovations. From luxury homes to significant reconfigurations of existing properties, the company has the skills and resources to manage complex projects. In collaboration with Appricus Eco, BG Build Ltd have helped co-ordinate multiple school heating system upgrades across New Zealand. BG Build Ltd also have experience in transportable homes says Ben having completed two relocation projects within Mount Maunganui. “We took this project from inception to execution assisting with the planning and subdivision all the way to completing the physical works and gaining sign off,” says Ben. The BG Build team also recently completed a minor dwelling on an existing urban Tauranga section, intended as rental accommodation. “This is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom minor dwelling right on 60 sq. metres which was executed nicely and makes good use of smaller infill space.” One notable example of BG Build’s capability is a current year-long renovation project of an existing Welcome Bay home, first built in the 1950’s with a renovation in the 1990’s. “This is one of our largest current projects on a 300+ sq. metre family home which requires a full exterior re-clad and internal reconfiguration and replacement of frames, to bring up to a modern standard,” says Ben. Its deteriorating old Hardie texture cladding is being replaced with new weatherboards to give it a more traditional, rural kiwi aesthetic. The architect on this project is Insignia Design who have optimised its sunny semi-rural location by opening a corner of the house to include outdoor living space with views across the Kaimai ranges. “It’s going to transform the house, the finished product will be close to completely new,”” says Ben.
