Dave Innes and his wife Michelle lead the busy company and are based in Mt Maunganui, while their main o ice and admin team is located in Cambridge. A large portion of their work is based in the Waikato as they continue to work on expanding into the Bay of Plenty. “Our administration and warehousing is based in Cambridge and though we’re in two places, we’re one big team.” Today, Roo ing Craftsmen employs a team of seven Tradesmen, including three Site Managers who are supported by Dave and his Leading Hand, who ensure projects on the ield are resourced to run well from start to inish. And helping Michelle to keep all of the cogs turning behind the scenes, she has her trusty Admin Team; an O ice Assistant holding the forte in the Cambridge o ice and a part time contractor Accounts Assistant. The company established in 2019 and Michelle acknowledges that the low-on e ect from the COVID years meant that 2023 was their most challenging year to date. “We’re beginning to see real signs though of coming through these tough times and I’m pleased with what we have achieved to date.” The company’s niche is de initely in the architectural builds space, though Michelle and Dave believe irmly in maintianing diversity in their serivces and therefore general new roofs, reroofs, repairs and maintenance are still regarded as important to the reputation and growth of the business. “When you think about roo ing and cladding, its really what people see and what de ines a home’s presentation. Great roo ing and cladding can make all the di erence in the world. It brings strong architectual elements to the fore and sets a home apart.” Michelle describes the team working on the site as real ‘craftsmen’ in their trade and the choice to use that word in the company’s name absolutely re lects the skills, passion and capabilities that set Roo ing Craftsmen apart. When the couple decided to establish their business, they spent good time and much thought on creating a detailed business plan, setting visions and goals to achieve. Having said this, Michelle says, those formative years, had an element of the ‘school of hard knocks’ to them, and while there were challenges, the learnings taken up have really been pivotal in creating their successful, highly regarded business today. “We wanted to be known as the best employer around and place huge emphasis on our team’s health and well-being. We’ve provided our team with membership to gyms, supply them with Health Food boxes and have a huge focus on our culture.” With high-end architectural builds, its common for Roo ing Craftsmen to be around the table and involved in design discussions right from the start. “There’s often a lot of outside of the box thinking when it comes to roo ing and cladding these amazing designs and this is where Dave and the team bring real value to the table.” Michelle, Dave and the team at Roo ing Craftsmen live by three core values: Innovation, Ingenuity and Integrity. Michelle says its by adhering to these pillars of what the business stands for, that their reputation has grown year on year. “We’re extremely proud of what we have achieved to date. It’s an exciting and engaging industry to be a part of.”
