A substantial project is underway in Raglan, on the outskirts near Whale Bay above a surf break known as Indicators, one of three iconic surfing breaks. This is a large architectural renovation, where a considerable portion of the existing home has been demolished. Extending over three levels, with steel work and balconies taking in dramatic views, Dan says the project is coming along very well and is expected to be completed this year. “With the large shrink-wrapped scaffold we have heard people refer to the job as ‘The Sugar Cube.’ We’ve got great guys on the build, who just get it!” Asked what lies ahead for the business Dan says he’s aiming to engage a project manager in the next six to12 months. Sitting alongside The Reno Guys is a sister company, Fervour Construction, set up about three years ago, driven by the desire to have a business working in the ‘new builds’ space. “It’s really just another arm to The Reno Guys, but means we can offer our services in larger new builds. I find the two complement each other very well.” For Dan, looking back on the journey to date, there’s immense satisfaction in what has been achieved. “I think we’ve got a great team culture going. We know what we do well and no two days are the same.
