We identified land within that development and ended up buying two neighbouring sites to give us the space we needed. The business is growing and we’re expanding with that growth.” REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Turners major new facility at Tauriko will bring together Truck and Machinery, and Damaged and End of Life (DEOL) vehicles under one secure location for the Bay of Plenty Region. Located in Tauriko Business Estate, one of the biggest industrial parks in Australasia, Turners’ new $9 million development encompasses 8000sqm of fully secured asphalted yard and includes a 100sqm office along with 300sqm purpose-built warehouse. While the construction project commenced February this year, the whole process from identifying and securing the land has taken two years. Marc Wells, Turners Group Property Manager says growth and the opportunity to combine both Truck and Machinery, and DEOL sales within the region were key drivers for the development. “Tauriko was a brand new greenfield commercial subdivision. We identified land within that development and ended up buying two neighbouring sites to give us the space we needed. The business is growing and we’re expanding with that growth. “We also have a desire to own our own sites, where we can. We’ve been leasing a couple of sites in Mount Maunganui; one for the Truck and Machinery business and another one for the DEOL business. “We’re now able to sell both categories from the one site enabling us to cross resource our staff as well as machinery like forklifts. It just made perfect sense.” Marc says the expansive and fully secured site now provides Turners with the space needed to accommodate the large volume of trucks and machinery on display, as well as the constant flow of DEOL vehicles. “DEOL cars are sold de-registered on behalf of various insurance companies within the region. We run weekly on-line auctions on behalf of the insurance companies and there is a high volume of cars that goes through that process. “The very diverse range of trucks and machinery on display in our yard includes everything from 1-tonne excavators through to massive 80-tonne excavators. “You could be selling a small two-tonne truck right up to a full truck and trailer unit. “It could a front-end loader, a grader or bulldozers — all that kind of equipment. “Because we are selling on behalf, we make recommendations to the vendors as to what we believe to be the best way to sell the gear, including fixed pricing and tenders, with the majority sold through on-line auction.” The warehouse will be used to display smaller industrial equipment or machinery like forklifts that are being sold on behalf of a receiver or liquidator. Through project management company TSA Riley, the construction project was put to tender as a design and build contract. Because of the very large yard component the project was separated between the yard and building contracts. While Formsteel provided a liteweight framing system to meet Turners’ design requirements, Tauranga based iLine Construction completed all construction work including laying the slab, frame erection, cladding and internal fitout. The civil work including drainage, developing and sealing the yard, security fencing and lighting was completed by Page Earthworks. Known as Turners Trucks and Machinery Tauranga, the new facility will draw its stock from throughout the Bay of Plenty region. “Site security was a very big consideration for us, given what we are selling. It is a very professional looking site and a great place for buyers or sellers of trucks and machinery to come to. “We have a big following through that business with a lot of exposure. There is always a lot of people calling in to see what we have for sale. “They will be looking on-line and if they have an interest in a particular item they will call out to site.” Create the Kitchen of Your Dreams Your Trusted Custom Kitchen and Wardrobe Specialists in Tauranga 07 574 8686 www.kitchensrus.co.nz Eleccom Design Ltd represents a team of specialist electrical engineers and designers that offer professional consulng services for the building services industry. c 021 555 570 | p 03 423 9266 | e design@eleccom.co.nz | w www.eleccom.co INNOVATIVE | SUSTAINABLE | DESIGN Proud to support Turners Automove
