68 | T T Richard Loader Focus on quality delivers results TRANSPORT Active VMA Since 1997, Rotorua based Active VMA has been transforming vehicles, machinery and attachments by re-engineering OEM products to suit the demands of New Zealand customers. “Our vehicles can be found in a range of industries from transport and roading, infrastructure and vegetation, through to forestry and agriculture,” says Director and General Manager Troy Jorgensen. Passionate about the business and the quality product provided to Active VMA’s customers, Troy has been part of the company’s journey for 23 years, starting as a 19 year old sweeping the floors. “We have evolved from servicing trucks and machinery, to solely focusing on manufacturing and our success has been about quality. “We don’t cut corners — never have, never will. To a certain extent we do over engineer but we believe that’s the reason we have very little warranty work. Things are well built and just don’t break.” VMA stands for Vehicle, Machinery and Attachments — the three sectors the company focuses on, with clients throughout New Zealand. The Vehicles team supplies New Zealand’s leading infrastructure companies with purpose-built road construction and maintenance vehicles along with attachments such as brooms, snowploughs and roller spreaders. “Our team of engineers can help with everything from toolbox cabinets to fully kitted service vehicles, wheelbase mods, through to complete truck body and trailer combinations. “Machinery includes the manufacture of forestry and construction Roll Over Protective Structures for excavators. “Most of the work we do in this space involves modifying excavator/earthworks machinery so that it can be used for other purposes such as forestry harvesting.” Active VMA is also the New Zealand distributor for FAE and Simex attachments. Whether the client is looking for heavy duty forestry mulchers or specialist roading and construction equipment such as stabilisers and crusher buckets VMA’s Attachments Team can help source the right product for the job. In June this year Active VMA enjoyed success at the National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek, winning the ‘Best Outdoor Site under 200sqm’ award. “We displayed a range of 10 FAE branded forestry mulchers. We’re the only company in New Zealand licensed to sell that brand of mulcher, which are designed to process a range of vegetation including branches, tree stumps and slash. There are options available for excavators, skid steers and tractors.” Blacks Transport Blacks - leading the pack Waikato’s Blacks Transport services a range of industries. T T Hugh de Lacy Based opposite the Hamptons Down car-racing track, Blacks Transport services a range of industries moving machinery and plant round the whole of the country, with a capacity to transport anything weighing up to 32 tonnes. Derek Tremewan helped set up the company in the Waikato for son Thomas after the two had worked together in the transport industry since before Thomas left high school. It was Thomas’ ambition to form a heavy transport company, and his father’s life-long experience in the industry helped make it possible. Both Derek and Thomas are directors of Blacks Transport while Derek’s wife Charlene handles the administration, and another son, Zak, is one of the five full-time drivers. Blacks Transport has more than a passing nod to the All Blacks’ legacy. The company’s fleet - three Western Stars, two Freightliners, two Nissans and an eight-wheeled flat-deck Isuzu - are all painted black, with individual trucks named after All Black legends – inlcuding one of the larger units, Number Seven, dubbed the “McCaw Express” after the fabled flanker and captain. Blacks Transport services a range of industries moving machinery and plant round the whole of the country, with a capacity to transport anything weighing up to 32 tonnes. It does container and general freight transporting, with Class One and Two pilots available when needed, and it has plenty of room for storage at its two home sites. “We’re very much a family firm and we’ve made our name from being trustworthy and experienced, delivering competent transport solutions for all sorts of applications,” Derek says. “Thomas gets called ‘the boss’ but it’s really Charlene who calls the shots, and I’m just left to do everything else that needs doing. “It’s a structure that works well for us, and in a better market we’d be looking at expanding, but right now any ideas of new trucks have had to be put on hold until the industry gets a bit more traction,” he says. • EARTHMOVING AND COMPACTION EQUIPMENT • ACCESS GEARS, FORKLIFTS AND TELEHANDLERS • EXCAVATOR BUCKETS AND ATTACHMENTS • TRUCKS AND TRAILERS • GENERATORS, LIGHTING AND COMPRESSORS • BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TOOLS 09 298 1519 | 43-47 HUNUA RD, PAPAKURA, AUCKLAND, 2110 WWW.OLSENCOMMERCIAL.CO.NZ | WWW.OLSENATTACHMENTS.CO.NZ CIVIL AND GPS EARTHWORKS 021 115 4176 | cbearthmoving@hotmail.com 32 Crooks Road, Auckland Proud to be a key partner and supplier to Active VMA
