This enables civil contractors to locate elements like rebar without causing damage to the structure. Hydrex’s core service is hydro excavation, which uses pressurised water to safely and accurately excavate soil. This method is not only non-destructive but also gentle on the environment making it ideal for working around sensitive underground utilities such as water mains, gas lines, and fibre optic cables. “Technology has massively improved what we do, and it’s only getting better. This enables us to expose the current infrastructure so it can be tied into new developments.” Hydrex also offers tree root exposure services, essential for preserving tree roots while ensuring underground utilities remain intact, especially where tree roots have grown around water pipes. “Tree roots chase the water so it’s common to find them wrapped around water pipes,” says Will. The company have undertaken tree root services for protected trees for local councils and redeveloped public housing projects for Kainga Ora. Vacuum loading is another crucial service provided by Hydrex. This involves the removal of liquid waste and slurry from various sites.\ “We empty out wet wells and sewer wells, anything that needs liquids removed basically.” They are currently tendering for a project to remove wastewater from an Auckland subdivision, while it installs its sewer infrastructure. Hydrex has recently obtained Totika Scheme NZ Industry Pre-Qualification status, a health and safety certification that ensures compliance with industry standards.
