Profile Earthworks T T Lindy Andrews “Everything we hand off to the civil engineers is as accurate as possible, as per plan. We export the data to them and they’re able to download it into their own systems.” CONTRACTING New technologies are driving greater precision and more cost-effective earthworks for construction and civil engineering projects, big and small. Eight months ago, Profile Earthworks’ managing director Sam Christie brought on board Nathan Winders, a seasoned project manager with 19 years’ construction industry experience under his belt. With Sam’s in-depth knowledge of the machinery, soils and legislative aspects of earthworks, and Nathan’s construction and commercial nous, the pair is fast bringing new levels of technical sophistication and sustainability to the industry. The latest Topcon GPS technology is central to the efficient use of materials, while reducing truck movements and emissions, Nathan explains. “We use it throughout our projects to track materials volumes in and out, for services location and as builts. Everything we hand off to the civil engineers is as accurate as possible, as per plan. We export the data to them and they’re able to download it into their own systems.” GPS technology ensures every aspect of Profile Earthworks’ projects is millimetre-accurate for height, depth, width and location. It also allows for better use of on-site and imported materials and, consequently, less cost for clients, fewer trucks on the road and less waste. “It’s effective and efficient,” says Sam, whose skilled grasp of engineering reports, council plans and requirements is of huge value to his clients, as is his willingness to listen to their ideas and aspirations. The Profile team’s dedication to task also ensures high-quality standards and clean sites, supported by excellent health and safety processes. The aim is always to deliver seamless, enjoyable, and successful outcomes. Profile Earthworks operates across the ‘Golden Triangle’ bordered by Auckland’s Bombay Hills, Hamilton and Tauranga. In recent years, economic commentators have begun to describe the area as the ‘Golden Diamond’ as this increasingly desirable centre of residential and commercial growth rapidly expands south to Taupo. Equipped with an arsenal of earthmoving machinery and four truck and trailer units, the company undertakes “the small stuff and the big stuff”. The “big stuff” includes a recently completed 18,000sqm Horotu project for Mount Maunganui-based client iLine Construction. With less new land being opened up for subdivision, Sam and Nathan also regularly undertake demolition and earthworks for an increasing number of infill housing developments. Existing older houses are demolished, with care taken to preserve materials, including fill, which can be reused on site or recycled. Again, truck movements are reduced and significantly less waste is transported to landfill – a cost-saver for the environment and clients alike. “We will project-manage a site from the start,” Nathan says. “We’ll do the demolition, the earthworks, cut and fill, and drainage and hand it back to the developers ready to build.” Profile’s drivers and operators can also be found working on small residential and industrial subdivisions. Residential house pads, driveways, vehicle crossings and retaining walls might be “small stuff”, but Profile Earthworks’ commitment to precision and commitment to client satisfaction remains the same. “Do it once, do it right, do it on time and on budget” nwtchuntly@gmail.com HUNTLY
