For Kelly, whose professional life has always been connected with fashion and textiles, being able to work with creatives from around the world in sourcing their materials, is an absolute joy. “I guess for me my angle has always been toward natural fabrics. I try to wear only natural fabrics every day. There’s something really wonderful about quality natural fabrics that really makes a difference when they are applied to soft-furnishings,” Kelly says. Planning new collections is a creative process and something Kelly really enjoys. Along with creating the company’s own designs, Hemptech also engages and supports designers from New Zealand and Australia. “It’s this support of designers and artists that is really important to us. While our Hemp and Linen fabrics are sourced from only the best European mills, the printed collections are printed right here in Auckland, ready for our interior design clients to access or even custom colour a design for a unique touch.” Kelly says these days people are a lot more open to the benefits that come from filling their homes with naturally sourced materials. Hemp is well regarded for its anti-microbial properties. Hemp fibre, at a cellular level prevents the growth of micro-organisms such as bacteria, mould and mildew. “They are breathable and give you a cocooning feeling in your home.
