94 | BUILDING Caniwi Construction to page 0 Global inspiration a big factor There are many lovely old homes in Whangarei, that just need some imagination, good planning and design. Sue Russell A ndy Cooney owns and operates Caniwi Construction Ltd based in Whanga- rei. The name Caniwi, is a nod to his history, having lived many years in Canada, before returning to New Zealand in 2009 to establish a business here specialising in all forms of residential upgrades, alternations and renovations. Andy employs two staff, Dave and Vicky. Dave is soon to get his LBP licence and Vicky is one year through her carpentry apprentice- ship. “Here in Whangarei, there are many lovely old homes that just need some imagination, good planning and design, to be transformed into something that will serve the owner well for many years to come,” says Andy. In these Post-Covid days, where the whole sector has had to adjust to extending time- frames and at times shortages of materials, Andy says he’s found that with a good lead-in time most work has proceeded without inter- ruption. In light of this, the pricing of projects can have challenges relating to materials and time-frames. When Business North spoke with Andy he was engaged on an interesting project, involv- ing constructing a pool house over a pool. “It’s been a great project to undertake; working alongside the owner who has a clear vision as to what he wants the space to even- tually look like. I’ve enjoyed all the discus- sions we’ve had as we’ve worked through the details.” One of the reasons Caniwi Construction has thrived is by supplying clients with complete project management services; taking over responsibility for all elements of the build. “We have a team of preferred tradespeople who know our standards and work to them.” Caniwi Construction offers a complete restoration service for dwellings relocated to a new site. And with no sign of demand slowing down, Andy has been looking for two more qualified builders. “Who do you know who would like to join an amazing team?” Andy says working on upgrades both large and small is extremely satisfying work. “Incorporating the owners dreams, we breathe new life into their homes.” The culture that Andy has created puts client’s needs at the top of the list. He and his team have standards they adhere to. These include honesty, integrity, communication, professionalism and doing the best job every time. “Incorporating the owners dreams, we breathe new life into their homes.” Many clients have posted public endorse- ments on Andy’s website, such as Graeme Hunter: “This is to endorse the workmanship carried out at our Langs Beach property in Northland undertaken by Andy Cooney of CANIWI Construction Limited.” “Andy conducted himself in a highly profes- sional manner at all times, was most diligent in his approach to achieving accuracy and detail of finish, and completed the job on time within the budget quoted. ” John Teklenburg. My comments about Andy can be captured in a few words: “Top-notch quality work, highly reliable and professional, service with a smile, fully guar- anteed. Andy knows what he is doing, he is accurate, competitively priced, and meets his commitments. I can highly recommend him!” Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Refrigeration & Electrical — Climatech NZ can take care of it all. 09 438 1718 admin@climatechnz.co.nz www.climatechnz.co.nz 26 Herekino Street, Whangarei 0110 P.
