Now Pilbrow is again blazing the trail with a new, easy to use ield tool for contractors. Called Taputapu, the ingenious tablet device itted with a multi-band GNSS antenna is being developed for simpler mapping and viewing jobs that do not require a full survey service. “On large construction sites, when new services are going into the ground, the location of these services is often not being captured,” explains Rodney Pilbrow, who owns Pilbrow Surveying. “That creates a problem down the line when people need to try and ind them. With Taputapu, our contractors and clients will be able to easily capture services at the time they’re doing them.” Alongside Taputapu, Pilbrow Surveying has developed ‘The Construction Exchange Hub’ (TCEH). Dubbed ‘Techie’, it’s a cloud-based sharing and viewing platform that enables all project design and survey data to be stored in one place. The idea is that Techie can be accessed from anywhere and supports easy sharing of data between clients, management, colleagues and contractors. “By linking the two, it means data captured on site using Taputapu can Pilbrow Surveying leading the way on innovation be stored in Techie. We think contractors will ind Taputapu simple to use. It’ll be permanently on the shoulder when they go out. They’ll be able to turn it on, do a scan and then upload to Techie for processing and later retrieval when needed.” Customers can bene it from the new technology regardless of where they are located. For the bigger jobs, Pilbrow Surveying o ers a fast, e icient service using robotic, GPS/GNSS and aerial mapping equipment. For example, the team recently supplied survey services to support Waikiwi Farm’s new free-range poultry venture. “We lew over the site with drones to do the initial site survey and then handed over to the shed designer. We then got involved again to mark the design back out to the real world.” Pilbrow Surveying has consistently invested in innovation to drive e iciency and accuracy for clients. A few years ago, the company invested in LiDAR remote sensing technology to map areas hidden by vegetation that would not otherwise be visible to a camera drone. An ORC helicopter with a 1.8m rotor span is used to ly their ‘Snoopy’ LiDAR system. “We’re always getting enquiries from people needing the LiDAR to get down under vegetation and capture that underlying ground.” Mapping Record new service locations before they are buried Topo smal l stockpi les for volumes Record test pit locations Accurately document the site of an incident Grab points to compute lengths and areas Map any site feature you can think of Viewing Mark out existing services before doing work Walk over new service setout to check for clashes Check if your layouts match design Mark out extents of works Access feature detai ls in the field View any site feature you can think of TCEH Taputapu Your All in One Solution to Map and View Site Details How to get one?
