We try and make every day the best day it can be for the residents,” says CEO of the Heritage Lifecare Group Norah Barlow. Heritage Lifecare is one of New Zealand’s largest providers of residential aged care services. It offers homes and small villages throughout New Zealand, providing a warm and welcoming home for nearly 4000 people each year. Norah says that the aged care sector is an important aspect of New Zealand life supporting Kiwis as they get older. “Aged care is such a necessary part of the healthcare continuum and plays a valuable role in overall society,” she says. Norah says that Heritage Lifecare enables older Kiwis to stay in their local communities and continue to thrive. With trusted and deep connections into each neighbourhood, each Heritage Lifecare facility is unique, reflecting the local environment. This means no two Heritage Lifecare facilities are the same. Creating a true home for residents is another important aspect: “At Heritage Lifecare we’re here to help people to feel completely at home with support tailored to their own needs. When people move into a Heritage care home or village they are welcomed into the Heritage family. We aim to offer the feel of a smaller, personal and homelike environment so we can really cater for the individual needs of the individual as nobody is the same.” She says this might mean families bringing in special food to enjoy together or grandchildren joining in games. She says that the residents are always the number one priority and Heritage Lifecare is focused on their independence, differences, friends and family, as well as their care and support needs. An important part of delivering this is the Heritage Lifecare team of over 2,400 staff, who are there to ensure that people receive the level of care and attention they deserve, to help make every day a better day for them. This includes a full activities team so that each Heritage Lifecare Village or Care Home can offer a range of facilities and activities including social gatherings and outings, physical activities such as bowls, therapy such as hydrotherapy in a pool, pet therapy and pamper sessions. “All of our caregivers and nursing staff are qualified and committed to providing the very best in nursing care. We carry out regular in-house training, which ensures our staff are able to meet residents’ needs at all times,” explains Norah. Heritage Lifecare offers a number of options to people – something that ensures that it can meet the needs of most New Zealanders, says Norah. Twenty villages nationwide designed for those over 70 are the first step where units, villas, townhouses, apartments and serviced apartments for independent living are offered with the peace of mind that care is on hand if needed. There are also 41 care homes offered. For those that have a medical condition or are less able to lead an independent life, Heritage Lifecare’s Rest Home living offers dedicated 24/7 care from our team of registered nurses and trained carers. “We believe that if people have a home where they are happy, well looked after and have the chance to form new relationships, it makes it the perfect ‘home away from home’.” If people need it at some stage of their lives, Heritage Lifecare also offers hospital, dementia, specialised hospital care and palliative care options. A day programme, for those that might enjoy some company and activities now and again, and respite care, to provide carers with a much-needed short-term break are offered. “At Heritage, we talk a lot about living ‘A Better Everyday’. This reflects our company mission, for all our people,” says Norah. “When David Renwick first founded Heritage Lifecare in 2017, he wanted to bring a group of care homes under the same umbrella with a shared vision and values that we still operate by today. At Heritage Lifecare we’re proud to be small, in your neighbourhood and close to your community.” “At Heritage Lifecare we’re here to help people to feel completely at home with support tailored to their own needs.”
