| 67 DESIGN Workshop e Photograph by Francis Parker, courtesy of Workshop e. 198 BANK STREET WHANGAREI www.hbarch i tecture . co.nz The museums includes an immersive AV that shows the journey of the Māori Battalion from New Zealand through the war in Europe and the impact that this had on them as individuals, told through first-hand accounts and real footage sourced from collections, world-wide. The memorial space within the museum is dedicated to all Māori soldiers that served. This space also includes the portraits of the A Company soldiers and related information about these soldiers can be accessed through the large digital touchscreens of these portraits. The digital touchscreens and technology, of which this is an example, is developed and produced in-house by Workshop e, and over the years they’ve also built a network of trusted suppliers and professionals with whom they collaborate to access, build and deliver whatever’s needed for any given exhibition. The Workshop e team were delighted that Te Rau Aroha was a finalist in this year’s Civic Interior Awards. The co-design and co-development of design experiences, and the relationships that grow out of the collaborative work which underpins projects like Te Rau Aroha, are at the heart of any exhibition Workshop e is involved with. It’s unusual for them to put their exhibitions up for an award but Te Rau Aroha was an important piece of work for Az and her team, and as she explains. “We had just finished it for Waitangi Day in 2020 and within a couple of weeks the whole place was closed. “It was a really special project to work on and amazing to be able to bring that story through as a national story. I wanted to highlight the story as well as the success of that collaborative way of working that brought it all together and to celebrate it in some way.” A finalist in this year’s Civic Interior Awards, Te Rau Aroha The Price of Citizenship is a permanent interactive exhibition installed at the top of the Treaty Grounds in Waitangi
