Business North October 2025

| 131 COMMUNITY Mahurangi College Groups of Year 10 students from Mahurangi College are spending five days experiencing the great outdoors. Kim says this is not a traditional school camp but a true outdoor experience aimed at changing lives. “Right now, students spend five days at Hōteo Wero, but we hope to build that up to six and eventually 10, because that’s when you really see a lasting shift in the way our rangatahi think. “What makes this place so special is the location and the fact that only one class goes at a time. With a group that size, there’s nowhere to hide. The quiet ones come out of their shells, conversations flow, and you see confidence grow and unexpected connections forming across the whole group.” An official opening ceremony will be held on-site this November, bringing together all those who contributed to Hōteo Wero to celebrate this unique project and to formally acknowledge and thank everyone involved.
