32 | Tāmaki Regeneration Company: Signature Construction Karen Phelps Shaping success for new Tamaki housing The Tāmaki regeneration programme operates under the guiding principle of the Tāmaki Commitment. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Signature Construction is playing an important role in a 10,500-home development in Auckland’s eastern suburbs by assisting its client Tāmaki Regeneration Company. Gareth Ready, director and CEO of Signature Construction Ltd, says the collaboration is significant for Signature Construction, which has built its reputation on delivering quality affordable housing and maintaining strong relationships with major housing providers across the Auckland region. “Our success has been built on forging lasting relationships, humility and helping clients bring their development vision to life,” says Gareth. “We believe it’s a privilege to be invited to the development table.” The Tāmaki Regeneration Company, formed in 2012 and jointly owned by the Government and Auckland Council, is working to transform the Tāmaki area through comprehensive redevelopment that prioritises community wellbeing alongside housing delivery. The organisation focuses on four key priorities: social support, housing development, economic growth, and place-making initiatives that support local cultural identity. For Signature Construction, the partnership builds upon a decade of experience in largescale social housing development, beginning when the company was first presented with opportunities to build for what was then Housing New Zealand, now Kāinga Ora. “Year after year, our growth has gained momentum, creating a remarkable success story,” Gareth says. “It reflects our ability to create jobs, provide homes for many of New Zealand’s most vulnerable people, and deliver high-quality, affordable housing.” The Tāmaki regeneration programme operates under the guiding principle of the Tāmaki Commitment, ensuring that existing state housing tenants wishing to remain in the area will have that opportunity. Of the total development, 3500 homes are designated as affordable housing, many reserved for current Tāmaki residents, or those with established connections to the community. It’s a privilege to work with clients such as Tāmaki Regeneration Company to deliver much-needed housing,” says Gareth. “If a client wants a single home we can deliver that, but we also take on projects of over 100 lots. “Our work spans everything from standalone houses to duplexes, triplexes, terraced homes, walk-up apartments and even five-storey lift-access apartments.” Formally established six years ago as an independent entity from Signature Residential, the company has positioned itself as a leading Auckland housing developer, while remaining part of the wider Signature Homes Group of franchised building businesses. A key differentiator for Signature Construction is its substantial internal technical expertise, which proves invaluable during early contractor involvement meetings.
