Richard Loader G rowing up in Denmark, and as far back as Soren Antonsen can remember he has always had a love for drawing structures and then building them. Apprenticed to a Master Carpenter for four years, Soren learned the old school way before he too be- came a Master Carpenter building beautiful homes, Michelin Star restaurants and bakeries. An injury steered Soren away from the tools and into university, completing a degree in Architectural Construction—midway between an engineering and architectural qualification—equipping him with complementary skill sets perfect for construction and project management. Travelling to New Zealand to study earthquakes as part of his degree, Soren fell in love with the country’s natural beauty and Nikki—later becoming his wife. A textile designer by qualification, Nikki’s passion for interior design and colour forged the perfect fit with Soren’s love for timber and the structural side transforming drawings to physical buildings. Working between New Zealand, Australia and Denmark, the couple eventually made Tauranga their home in 2010 where Soren was engaged as a project manager for an architectural firm. That engagement led to Soren’s involvement with Lockwood Homes, a perfect match given Soren’s passion for timber’s warmth, structural integrity and finish reminiscent of craftsmanship from a bygone era. Rebranding their existing business Seaside Con- sultants to Seaside Homes in 2018, Soren and Nikki took the mantle of the Lockwood’s Tauranga agency and are focusing 100% on building Lockwood Homes. “Nikki and I are really happy with where we are now,” says Soren. “It was always our dream to have our own build- ing company. I enjoy giving clients a new home and they love what we’ve have done. “Making people’s dreams come true is one of the most important things and I want us to be the best Lockwood builder there is.” Having built homes in Sweden, Denmark, Aus- tralia and New Zealand, Soren has been impressed with the rigor and structural integrity of the Lock- wood brand. “The strength of the product amazes me. It’s the way they are put together and the longevity. Not a single home came down in Christchurch during the big earthquakes and they have been code marked by the Government. “We don’t take any shortcuts. What is manifest- ed in our business is the quality of build and that’s what our display homes demonstrate.” Seaside Homes latest Lockwood display home in Bell Road, Papamoa is Scandi inspired, showcasing three wall finish options and embracing a warm and cosy look and feel. Natural oils have been used in the Master bedroom to add emphasis to the timber’s richness while the living area, bedrooms and hallway have been blonded, enhancing the Scandi feel. Ensuite and main bathroom have both been painted, blending with bath, vanity and shower. Raked timber ceiling provides a sense of spa- ciousness that belies the home’s 120sqm footprint. Soren’s broad technical knowledge and mastery of carpentry are complemented with his team of five craftsman builders and Nikki’s interior design skills. Add the natural beauty of Lockwood and the formula is perfection. “Despite Covid, we’re pretty lucky with projects right through into next year.” “Making people’s dreams come true is one of the most important things and I want us to be the best Lockwood builder there is.” We specialise in creating high quality kitchens, individual to you, throughout the Bay of Plenty.
