Naylor Love - Whakatane: Edgecumbe College COMMUNITY The commercial construction sector remains buoyant in the Bay of Plenty and Naylor Love has a strong forward schedule of work. Currently it is working on a number of projects in the region including an upgrade at Edgecumbe College. Spearheaded by Naylor Love’s Tauranga branch the project involves the overhaul of the existing food tech building – a significant first stage in a multi-phase endeavour. The comprehensive refurbishment, which commenced earlier this year, encompasses both the internal and external facets of the building. A new roof and cladding system are set to modernise its aesthetics and functionality. Inside the transformation aims to create a more user-friendly and accessible environment for students promoting seamless movement between classrooms. The introduction of double-glazed windows, ramps, and decking ensures inclusivity and comfort. He says working with an older building led to some unexpected discoveries as the project commenced including leading to the replacement of timber framing to align with current building standards. Notably, the project’s progress hasn’t merely been about bricks and mortar; it’s been a collaborative effort with Edgecumbe College to provide real-world learning experiences for tech students, says the branch manager of Naylor Love Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty region Simon Litten. “We have worked with the school so their tech woodwork and metalwork students can have a look around the project to give them real life insight into a construction project and the challenges,” he says. The collaborative process has also extended to working closely with the school to harmonise construction activities with the school’s daily operations. Simon says a delicate balance was struck to ensure minimal disruption in terms of noise and dust, reflecting Naylor Love’s meticulous planning and adaptability. “Demonstrating our expertise in education-focused projects has been rewarding. We’re accustomed to handling Ministry of Education projects across New Zealand and this has set us up well to undertake this project at Edgecumbe College.” Naylor Love offers a full range of commercial construction services throughout New Zealand. Beyond the Edgecumbe College transformation, Naylor Love Waikato Bay of Plenty is immersed in a variety of other significant projects. The company is actively engaged with the Rotorua Lakes Council, orchestrating the revitalization of the Rotorua Aquatic Centre. Simon says this complex, multi-stage venture has already involved re-lining and extending the existing outdoor pool to which can now be used as two 25m pools when required. The current stage encompasses the removal and replacement of roofing structures and cladding system and an upgrade of the back of house including changing room facilities. In Tauranga Naylor Love is undertaking seismic strengthening of two multi-story car parks within the city’s central business district for Tauranga City Council. The company is also collaborating with Southern Cross at Grace Hospital for expansion initiatives.
