| 103 Forum North Forum North is a multi-faceted facility offering spaces for community groups to meet, hold performances of all manner and size, static exhibitions and cultural engagements. COMMUNITY Taking enormous pride in the quality of your work and that of your team, underpins why professional commercial cleaning business Professional Property & Cleaning Service Limited (PPCS) has secured key relationships with many organisations in Northland. This nation-wide kiwi company is proud of its track-record, not only delivering clients a superb level of facilities care, but in creating meaningful employment opportunities to many who have been challenged to ind quality employment in their area. This is the case especially in Northland, where Charene Hobson (Char) has come into the company relatively recently, to ind herself engaged with supporting her teams to seize employment opportunities and excel. “We want to provide them with a standard of work second-to-none,” Char says. Char looks after a team of 7 cleaners ensuring each one has been professionally inducted into how to correctly and safely use an array of cleaning chemicals, the correct cleaning process to avoid cross-contamination, use of PPE gear and operating a back-pack vacuum cleaner in an ergonomically safe way Char says the time spent through this training phase is critical and what PPCS is known for. “We’re about delivering to our clients amazing care of their premises day in day out and just as much providing our valued team with opportunities to grow in skill and con idence. It’s a really wonderful role I have.” A signi icant proportion of their work is in areas used by the public. PPCS has the contract to maintain all the public toilets from Waipu up to Bland Bay in the North. In Whangarei our main clients include Whangarei District Council and Northland Regional Council along with smaller private companies such as North Sawn Lumber Ltd. “The sta at Te Iwitahi have complimented us on the quality of our work. We feel really proud Pride in performance when we get this feedback and I’m especially happy for the team to have their work recognised.” Char has returned back to her home province for a break from studies. This role provided the opportunity to work closely with sta , to invest her people skills in worthwhile activities that bene it the community. Training takes place over two nights when a new teammember is engaged. The work is mainly part-time, enabling them to pursue other activities and balance family commitment with work. PPCS also o ers local people shorter-term employment, something Char says is really important. “Often people are looking at a number of possible employment, training or quali ication pathways, so to be able to work for shorter periods of time is valued.” Char says just how complex high quality cleaning is often comes as a surprise to people. There’s much more to a good clean than meets the eye. “When you’re maintaining public spaces, you have to be thinking about infectious control particularly in these times post-COVID, when everyone is concerned about their health and wellbeing.” As Contract Manager, Char has learnt valuable people skills she says will readily transfer into other roles. “I can see the pride my team takes in doing a good job and this really helps boost their con idence and sense of self-worth, that will take them on well into the future.” Providing cleaning services for ForumNorth Entertainment Centre, Semenoff Stadium, Whangarei District Council and Northland Regional Council We have full-time and part-time jobs available now ...
