Owner/director Jimmy Gallivan started the commercial and civil construction company business after emigrating from Wales in 2016. “I was fortunate to be offered a job here while working in the Middle East. Before starting Gallivan Group, I worked as a structures manager for the biggest contractor in New Zealand,” Jimmy says. This experience proved the value of developing good relationships in business, especially in a nation where word-of-mouth referrals still matter, he says. “You’ve got to treat everyone with as much respect as possible. A lot of our work is repeat business where we’ve done a great job for a client, and we win the next project.” Specialising in formwork and falsework solutions for technically complex reinforced concrete structure projects and structural steel erection and fabrication, Gallivan Group has a highly skilled team includes engineers, site and project management, formwork carpenters, steel fixers, precast installers, welders and riggers as well as highly qualified civil and structural professionals. Consequently it has the in-house capacity to design and build most structural or architectural solutions out of concrete using, Doka formwork systems, fabricated structural steel or traditional timber as formwork. The company has completed significant projects in Auckland, Wellington and Northland and holds multiple industry and safety organisation memberships. It has enjoyed a strong working relationship with the Link Alliances’ City Rail Link project from 2019, supplying site supervision, carpentry, rigging, welding and project engineering to the C1 Britomart, C3 Karangahape Rd, Mercury Lane, Northern Arterial Line and Beresford Square projects. Some of this work comprises the most technically challenging underground station boxes and above ground superstructures in the New Zealand rail corridor. “Our team were integral with the day-to-day operations of the Karangahape Rd projects working alongside the Link Alliance and other build partners”. Jimmy attributes the successful growth of his business to the breadth and depth of skill and knowledge his locally and internationally experienced team members bring to each job. In August, 2021during the height of covid pandemic restrictions, Gallivan Group planned and constructed the most extensive vertical Doka climbing system in the southern hemisphere to shroud BNZ Tower’s construction in Wellington. These screens allowed the safe vertical construction of structural steel and concrete
