PR Builders focus on working to a very high level of detail is being noticed and commented on by clients and subcontractors alike. In defining quality and craftsmanship, owner Peter Richards is specific about what it takes to make a tangible difference including the aid of modern laser levels to achieve lower than usual tolerances. “We spend a lot more time on our timber framework, ensuring it is plumb, level and straight. We go over all of the walls with a straight edge and a planer and we aim and get the tolerance to zero millimetres.” Peter and his team also make sure the symmetry of different material types is well thought out. “It takes a bit of time spent on the framing initially, but then it speeds up the whole job from then on because you are not trying to install cladding and lining that’s warping against the framework, everything’s fitting nicely into the joinery when you’ve got all your faces sitting so nicely.” “It’s high quality construction with efficient results. We have systems in place with a well-defined workflow so that we can work through jobs efficiently. Each stage is checked off to ensure our quality is being achieved.” This fine detailing is appreciated by sub trades such as gib stoppers and painters who often comment they are working on the flattest surfaces they have ever seen and love working on PR Builders jobs. A client who is appreciating this level of quality is currently having a new 330 square metre home built in the rural lifestyle subdivision of Te Arai Estate which takes in commanding sea views to the east about an hour out of Whangarei. The house is designed to accommodate a retired couple and their visiting family’s lifestyle, with one end dedicated to the main living area and master suite at the other end having four bedrooms with living space. The steep pitch roof allows for a bedroom in the attic and extra storage. Clad in black low maintenance aluminium Nu-Wall vertical profile, it features Dimond Solar-Rib roofing of the same colour that can disguise solar panels within the profile. The exterior has a portico with aluminium joinery sides for protection against the weather, while a louvre roof system installed outside the master bedroom and kitchen area provides control over comfort and light. “That follows through to the outside of the portico and there’s a large gable window which brings a lot of light in. On the portico they wanted aluminum joinery each side of the exterior living area because it’s quite exposed to the sou’westerly, but on a nice day they can open it and have the air coming through.” Inside, there will be a designer kitchen with scullery and a main living area with a high vaulted ceiling and a large feature open wood fire. The client, Michael Gray, has no previous relationship with Peter or PR Builders, but says “words fail him” about his commitment to quality and every single detail of the build which includes being budget conscious without compromising on quality. Peter has top notch tradesmen working on the house and a schedule that runs like clockwork, while his communication, which is daily, is detailed and flawless, Michael says. “We call Pete and his team the A-Team. They are undeniably superb.” Delivering projects to the highest standards across the whole UDQJH RI VFD΍ROGLQJ requirements. • Health and Safety • &RPPHUFLDO 6FD΍ROGLQJ • ΖQGXVWULDO 6FD΍ROGLQJ • 5HVLGHQWLDO 6FD΍ROGLQJ • 3URSSLQJ 6KRUH /RDGLQJ • Equipment Hire/Sales 0508 SUMMIT (786648) ZZZ VXPPLWVFD΍ROGLQJ FR Q] $8&./$1' :$Ζ.$72 $1' 1257+/$1' Summit Sca olding has experienced exponential growth during the past decade, but this is not purely the result of the construction boom. The company operates in Auckland region from Hibiscus Coast in the north to Hamilton in the south, providing a comprehensive service in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors. Director John Scott says Summit Sca olding’s workload continues to be buoyant despite the current retraction in the economy, and he attributes this stability and the strong growth at least in part to the company’s solid track record in safety. This has seen its workforce increase from 40 to 210 in the past decade, he says. “The diligence of our management and workforce have enabled us to achieve this since the company’s formation. A lot of our contracts are won on our health and safety record.” John describes sca olding as a highly demanding skill that provides challenges in logistics, engineering, and of course, operating at height. Advancements in technical equipment and its application means the company has incorporated intensive and ongoing sta training regimes to keep ahead. Although there has been increased compliance around health and safety, Summit Sca olding is a business leading the way forward in this sphere, going above and beyond standard certi ications. One example is that the company provides a minimum working platform width of one metre which outstrips the usual 750mm wide standard currently acceptable. Scaffolding with skill “It is our conclusion that a 750mm platform width is inadequate for work access, the storing of material, and of course, safety.” Becoming a quali ied sca older is a three to four year process and, at the minimum, all the company’s installers hold a current Site Safe Card, while all supervisors hold Site Safe Gold Cards and most have international quali ications as well as many years experience. Summit operates within the SARNZ (Sca olding, Access and Rigging New Zealand) framework and adheres strictly to industry health and safety regulations, as well as being fully compliant with Good Practice Guidelines for Sca olding in New Zealand. The business operates out of both Auckland and Hamilton and is extremely proud of its involvement in numerous major projects, all of which have made positive contributions to the commerce, education, tourism, and civic landscape in the Auckland and Hamilton areas. These include the Commercial Bay City Rail Link underground tunnels and 41 level o ice tower, Auckland International Airport Upgrade, multiple University of Auckland projects, large scale Wiri Prison and Paremoremo Maximum Security Prison projects, Datacom Centre Hamilton and Springhill Prison Waikato upgrade. Despite this, it regards small scale work as equally important, John says. The company also operates Sca olding Equipment Hire and Sales Auckland supplying the commercial and residential markets with a wide range of sca olding components and recommends equipment manufactured by Kwikserv, an internationally renowned supplier of top-quality sca old.
