NF Construction BUILDING Bucking the current pinch in residential building, Mangawhai-based NF Construction is as busy as ever. Owner Nic Foster says this strong demand is for the higher-end bespoke builds the company specialises I for clients with good equity and is coming mostly from referrals. “It always has been that way.” NF Construction employs 11 tradesmen, with Nic and his wife Sarina, who has a degree in design, working together as a team. “We both love architecture. If I wasn’t going to be a builder I would have been an architect,” Nic says. Nic and Sarina have built eight houses for themselves over the years and this has given them a wealth of experience and the ability to offer clients valuable insights about building their dream home. Despite the business’ solid workload, Nic and Sarina are not complacent and are becoming more proactive in marketing. This includes Sarina updating the business’ website, engaging in social media and advertising for the first time ever in a local magazine. On the back of achieving three awards in the Auckland/Northland/Coromandel 2022 House of the Year for a 400 square metre house in Mangawhai Heads, Nic is excited to have another significant build entered in this year’s awards. Situated in The Sanctuary subdivision in Mangawhai Heads and built for an Auckland client, it is an extraordinarily long 60 metres by six metres wide for a total footprint of 360 square metres. Designed by award winning Auckland architectural designer Jose Gutierrez, it is the highest value project completed by NF Construction to date. “The architect rang me and said that I’d been recommended” “The client had a super-high attention to details. We had to make sure everything was millimetre perfect,” Nic says. The NF Construction team working on the house was led by Andrew Lawrie, a former boat builder who was not fazed by the exacting standards required. Perched on an elevated site and nestled among trees, the home overlooks the bushclad Brynderwyn Hills from its northern elevation and naturally lends itself to seamless indoor-outdoor living from any room along its full-length deck. The main living area features 13 metre long sliders opening to the north that overlook a pool beyond the deck with both the house and the pool surrounded by extensive landscaping and plantings. The living area, private lounge, three bedrooms and service areas are all accessed along the spine of the home, but are segregated and defined by outdoor covered entertaining areas that facilitate flow between the different sections of the building, while acting as additional living areas through the seasons. Black-stained cedar exterior cladding contrasts strongly with the contemporary European-influenced interior which has a limited neutral palette with light-toned cabinetry and furniture supplied by the client, with the floor in the kitchen and lounge/living area being European oak. The NF Construction team are extremely proud of the finished home and are hopeful of a good result in this year’s House of the Year competition, Nic says. “We treat every house as if it’s our own house so we are really proud of the work that we do.” www.cge.co.nz SERVICING MANGAWHAI AND SURROUNDING AREAS AND MARINE LTD MANGAWHAI ENGINEERING AND TRUCKSLTD MIDWAY CRANES • Structural Steel Specialist • Architectural Steel Fabrication • General Engineering Repairs &Maintenance • HIAB Truck Hire • Cabin &Container Relocations •Onsite Lifting and Shifting up to 7 Ton & up to 28m each • General Freight &Transport 09 - 4231100 021 - 1162737 09 - 4231100
